Girls’ Basketball

Playing in Class A this year, the Bronxville girls’ basketball team opened in December with an impressive six-game winning streak but has faced stiffer competition recently, dropping four games over the past two weeks. The Broncos will be hoping to get back on track when they face Rye Neck (6-6) on Friday at home at 6:00PM.
The girls’ team opened the season with a strong performance against neighboring Eastchester, defeating the Eagles 53-46. In that game, Claire Kennedy led the scoring with 21 points while Ellie Fahey added 16.
The Broncos also recorded two decisive wins over Edgemont in December, defeating the Panthers 62-22 early in the month and securing a 57-28 victory right before the holiday break. In the second game matchup, Kennedy scored 23 and Fahey scored 14. The Broncos also faced tougher competition against Class AA Yorktown but still came out on top with a narrow 52-51 victory.
The past two weeks have been challenging as the Broncos dropped four consecutive games, including two overtime losses. Playing against defending state champion Ardsley, Bronxville held the lead with under a minute remaining in the second overtime, but the Panthers scored the game winning shot with just a half a second left. Bronxville also suffered a tough overtime loss to Westlake, 50-45, despite strong performances from Lulu Heathwood, who scored 16 points, and Ellie Fahey who scored 15.

Boys’ Basketball
The boys’ basketball team got off to a slow start in December as three key players, Walker Moore, Desi Heathwood, and Brady Dolan, were still playing in the football playoffs when the basketball season started. In December the team’s record was 1-4, but it has improved in January to 4-6 with wins over Pelham (51-44), Edgemont (60-55), and Tuckahoe (69-42). The Broncos had lost to both Edgemont and Pelham in December. Top scorers for the team include Daniel Alma, Walker Moore, and Desi Heathwood.
This week LoHud honored the “Basketball Glue Boys”, giving a nod to players that hold the team together. Brady Dolan was honored as the Bronxville player who “makes the game fun, holds teammates accountable, goes hard in practice and keeps everyone together on and off the court.”
The team has a packed schedule and is on the road for the next week playing at Hastings on Friday, Pearl River on Monday and Westlake on Tuesday. They return home on Friday, January 30th to play Eastchester for the second time.
Go Broncos.
