Jan. 14, 2026: Bronxville athletes were honored at the Fall Sports Awards evening in late November. Anthony Vaglica, a longtime teacher at Bronxville who assumed the role of athletic director this year, reflected on the commitment and dedication of Bronxville athletes throughout the fall season.
“Sports awards evening is a celebration of our fall teams – their hard work, growth and many accomplishments,” noted Vaglica.
There was much to celebrate this fall. The football team captured the Class C State Championship for the second time in Bronxville history, and the girls’ cross country team won the Class C State Championship for the first time since 2021 with freshman Mia Horgan placing first in the Class C race.
Bronxville teams were also successful in the sectional playoffs. In total, three Bronxville teams finished the season as Sectional Champions: football, field hockey, and girls’ cross country.
Numerous Bronxville athletes earned All-State recognition by the New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) including eight members of the championship football team. Four Broncos were named to the First Team: Brian Formato (Sr., RB/LB), Thomas Freeman (Sr., OE), Henry Scholes (Jr., OL), and Harry Estrada (Sr., DL). Formato received the state’s top honor, being named the New York State Class C Co-Player of the Year.
Additional football players earning All-State recognition were Walker Moore (Sr., OE, 2nd team), Theo McMurray (Jr., QB, 3rd team), Brady Dolan (Sr., DB, 3rd team) and Anton Schmidt (Jr., LB, Honorable Mention).
Six other Bronxville athletes earned NYSSWA All-State recognition in the fall of 2025 including Nicholas Gonda (soccer), Mia Horgan and Carina Winiecki (cross country), and Matthew Jensen, Julian Gonzalez, and Nate Deutsch (cross country).
Nineteen Broncos were recently named to LoHud’s Westchester/Putnam All-Star list. Four Bronxville football players—Theo McMurray, Brian Formato, Harry Estrada, and Thomas Freeman—earned first team honors. Walker Moore was selected to the second team, while Brady Dolan and Henry Scholes received honorable mention recognition.
In cross country, Mia Horgan was named to LoHud’s first team. Emerson Dennis, Ella McCalla, and Carina Winiecki received honorable mention recognition for the girls’ team. On the boys’ team, Matthew Jensen and Julian Gonzalez were named to the second team, with Nate Deutsch and Will Hogue earning honorable mention recognition.
Tennis player Anette Dani was selected to LoHud’s second team, and three members of the field hockey team—Zoe Loader, Sabrina Presant, and Izzy Yeon— received honorable mention recognition.
