Dec. 3, 2025: Bronxville continued its commanding postseason run with a decisive 49-16 win over Schuylerville in the state semifinals. The Broncos have been unstoppable from September through November, and Saturday’s performance showed they have no plans of slowing down now.
Wide receiver Thomas Freeman scored two touchdowns against Schuylerville and caught five passes for 116 yards.
“What a blast--considering that the last time we went to States was 15 years ago,” said Freeman. “Obviously, it has been a historic year for the team, and we are ready to prove that we are capable.”
Junior quarterback Theo McMurray, who completed 9 of 14 passes for 190 yards, finds it hard to contain his excitement.
“I am trying to stay cool, but it is a lot to take in when I think about how far we have come,” said McMurray. “It is a blessing to be still playing, and we are super excited.”
In the semifinal game at Middletown High School, the Broncos had a commanding 28-0 lead at half time with Brian Formato scoring all four touchdowns. Formato, who rushed for 150 yards against Schuylerville, has scored more than 30 touchdowns this season, consistently delivering week after week.
With talent spread across every position, Bronxville has built an offense that performs equally well on the ground and in the air.
“We could not move down the field if not for the linemen,” said Freeman. Formato has explosive plays, and Theo is able to throw the ball 50 yards down the field. Everyone has their own role, and we win as a team.”
While the Bronxville offense has scored 508 points this season, the defense has been equally impressive only giving up 171 points in the 11 games played so far.
“Our defense does not get the credit they deserve,” said McMurray. “They are big part of the reason why we are so good. They get us the ball back. They do their job every week and are the backbone of what makes our offense so successful.”
“Harry Estrada is our best d-lineman,” added McMurray. “He is an animal. He’s got such a high motor and is everywhere. Henry Scholes, who is also on the line, does a great job getting to the quarterback.”
The defensive unit also includes outstanding d-ends Walker Moore and Kieran O’Neil, linebackers Freeman, Charlie Atkeson, Will Molloy, and Anton Schmidt, cornerbacks Max Zarba and Grant Patterson, and safeties Formato and Brady Dolan.
Section 1 will be well represented at the New York State Championships this coming weekend. In addition to Class C Bronxville, Rye, Sleepy Hollow, and Tuckahoe are all state finalists this year.
While Bronxville is a Class C team, during the regular season they defeated both Class B Sleepy Hollow (35-13) and Class D Tuckahoe (48-21).
The Broncos will face a formidable opponent, Chenango Forks, in the championship game. Chenango Forks, who defeated Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton 34-7 in the semifinals, has won seven state titles in both Class C and Class B over the past 23 years.
“We watched the Chenango Forks regional final and state semifinal games,” said McMurray. “We have come to the conclusion that they are a very good team with good athletes who can play--but we think back to our team. We have a close group of guys who want it. If we go out and do what we having been doing all season, we can bring it to them.”
The Class C Championship game will take place on December 6th at the JMA Wireless Dome at Syracuse University at noon.
