Bronco Spring Season is in Full Swing: Tennis, Lacrosse, Baseball, and Golf

Tennis
The Bronxville boys won the New York State Team Tennis Championship last year, and a banner recognizing their success was recently put on display at the Village Courts.
The Broncos opened the 2024 season in early April with a 3-2 win over Rye Neck and have continued their success over the course of the month with four more wins and just one loss. In Friday’s match against Rye Neck, brothers Rhys and Harrison Brown helped the team by winning in super tiebreakers at first doubles and first singles. The Broncos have a packed schedule in the next week and will be on the road with matches against Clarkstown South, Horace Greeley, Briarcliff, and Scarsdale.
Lacrosse
The Class D Bronxville lacrosse teams will play two big home games this week against top teams. The girls’ team, ranked No. 8 in LoHud’s Power Rankings, will face No. 2 Rye on Thursday, and the boys’ team, ranked No. 9 in the Power Rankings, will face No. 8 Horace Greeley on Friday.
The Bronxville girls (5-4) has been playing against some stiff competition this spring and had a much needed 12-10 win over No. 9 Pelham last Friday. In the game against the Pelicans, six Broncos scored: Maddy Williams (3G, 6DC), Ella Garofalo (3G), Rose Woolery (2G), Linnea Hentschel (2G), Charlotte Murray (1G), and Mabel Arrighi (1G). Gabbi Bici had nine saves.
The boys’ team (4-3) is currently ranked No. 4 in New York according to LaxNumbers, but is playing in one of the most competitive Class D Sections in the state. Pleasantville is the top-ranked Class D team in New York, and both Haldane and Westlake are ranked in the top 10.
The boys’ defeated both Fordham Prep 15-6 and Greenwich 12-11 last week. Scoring in the game against Greenwich were Nick Martinelli (3G), Jack Reilly (2G), Theo McMurray (3G,3A), Thomas Freeman (1G,4A), Teddy Grammins (1G,2A), and Ben Atkeson (2G). Luke Arrighi had 22 saves.
Baseball
The baseball team (4-5) won three consecutive games against Putnam Valley, Blind Brook, and Dobbs Ferry in the last two weeks. In the 17-13 win over Dobbs Ferry, Henry Vail was 3-5 with 3RBIs, Jack Gangemi was 2-4 with 5 RBIs, and Jack Kennedy was 4-5 with 4 RBIs. Vail improved his pitching record to 2-2 with this win.
The Broncos suffered a tough 10-9 loss to Pleasantville on Friday. In that game, Vail was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, Jackson Crystal was 3-4 with 3 RBIs, Gavin Smart was 3-4 with 2RBIs, Connor Kenny was 2-3 with an RBI, and Jack Gangemi also had an RBI.
Former Bronxville baseball player Andy Holub, Class of 2022, recently announced he will be continuing his baseball career at the University of Iowa. Holub, an infielder, is currently playing at Wake Technical Community College in North Carolina where he is batting .436 with 62 runs, 72 hits, 10 homeruns, and 55 RBIs.
Golf

The Bronxville boys’ golf team is 4-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. In the match against Rye Neck at Siwanoy on Wednesday, the Broncos prevailed by a score of 207-246. Captain Walker Liggitt led with a score of 39. The Broncos picked up a second win last week with a 202-208 victory over Eastchester but suffered a 192-208 loss to Fordham, a team that is looking to repeat as the CHSAA champion.
