Feb. 25, 2026: With the conclusion of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games on Sunday and massive snowstorm yesterday, the circumstances could not be better for those who enjoy snow sports. Unfortunately, for the indoor track and field teams, this winter’s snow and cold have made practicing a real challenge. The track at Chambers Field has been snow-covered for weeks, forcing the athletes to train either outside on the road or indoors on the stairs in the high school.
Despite limited access to the track, both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivered outstanding performances at the Class C Sectional Championships, each capturing a sectional title with strong showings across both track and field events.

The girls’ team claimed first-place finishes in the 300m, 600m, and 1000m and also won the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. Their depth of talent extended into the field events as well, earning second-place finishes in the high jump, triple jump, pole vault, and shot put.

The boys’ team placed first in the 300m, 1600m, and 4x400m relay and were particularly dominant in the field events with first-place finishes in the high jump, triple jump, shotput, and weight throw.

In total, Bronxville athletes earned 12 second-place finishes, including two photo finishes. Senior John Sekula missed first place in the 55m hurdles by just 0.04 seconds, and teammate Carl Kirst was just 0.05 seconds out of first place in the 55m dash. After two weeks of watching the Olympics, the importance of every hundredth is fresh in everyone’s mind.

The success of these two teams comes despite graduating some truly exceptional talent last year.
“Our newcomers added significantly to the team, and our veterans truly stepped up to fill those roles,” said boys’ coach, Brian Halling. “Watching seniors like Vincent D'Amato, Javier Tomala Reidel, John Sekula, Julian Gonzalez, Will Hogue, Zijun Xu, and so many others grow into such successful roles for our team was incredibly rewarding.”
Next up for the Broncos is the State Qualifier on Thursday. The New York State Championships will take place on March 6th and 7th at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
