May 14, 2025: The Bronxville Village Board of Trustees meeting was held on May 12, 2025.  Below are the highlights from that meeting.

Bronxville Farmers Market
Mayor Mary Marvin reported that the Bronxville Farmers Market is open. The market on Paxton Avenue is open every Sat. 8:30 - 1:30, rain or shine.  It is open now until Thanksgiving.

Green Committee Initiatives
She also reported that the Green Committee met with members of New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital because they are doing a “deep dive” into energy use in the Village to learn what others are doing and share ideas.  The Green Committee will also meet with Iona University Bronxville and the Bronxville School.  Village Administrator Jim Palmer noted that the Hospital has a rain garden on its rooftop and is upgrading its HVAC to an energy-efficient system.

Safety Day
The Bronxville School annual senior class safety day is on May 21. They meet with the police and fire departments to discuss safety at college.  On that same day, the Bronxville School 4th grade will be cleaning up the Village.

Dog Show
Memorial Day Weekend will include a bake sale that Mayor Marvin will judge.  She also judges the dog show.  The full Bronxville Memorial Day schedule can be found here.

Library Benefit
Trustee Behrens reported that the Library Benefit this year was a great success.

Upcoming Events

May 15: On May 15th at 6 pm, the Women’s Club and Link New York are having a special event entitled “Bronxville Community Service Celebration.”  Many local organizations will have tables at the event, and it’s a great place to learn about them.  There will be food, drink, and live music.

May 17: Trustee Knapp noted that the Green Committee is hosting its Take Back Day on May 17th from 10 am to 1 pm.  There will be a mobile shredder at the elementary school. Electronics, gently used clothing, new blankets, used sneakers, running shoes, and soccer equipment will be collected at Palumbo Place.

May 15 & 18: Memorial Day Events in Eastchester

Trustee Fredericks noted that Bronxville has a wonderful Memorial Day planned and that Tuckahoe and Eastchester also have a robust Memorial Day program.  The Eastchester parade is Sunday, May 18th, starting at 2 pm and kicks off at the Eastchester Library. He also said that Eastchester has a program that will take place on Thursday, May 15th, at 7 pm in the Eastchester High School auditorium.

May 20, 7 am to 9 pm (Meadow Avenue entrance): Bronxville School Board and Budget & Capital Plan Vote at the Bronxville School.

May 26, 8:30 am: Bronxville Memorial Day Parade Kicks Off at 9 am, starting at Leonard Morange Square and heading down Pondfield Road.  The Grand Marshall is Dr. George Unis, a 50+-year veteran who was an army doctor for years.    

May 30, 4 pm: There will be an official dedication of new Dogwood trees, which the Working Gardeners have planted in the park near the Bronxville tennis courts.  This park is called “Dogwood Park.”

June 7: The Bronxville Beautification Council is having its fundraiser on June 7th.  You can click here for tickets.

Update on Village Tree Planting Program
Trustee Fredericks also reported that they had a meeting with the Bronxville Conservancy and Green Committee to discuss the new village tree-planting program. He said that they will probably have a report in the fall. The Conservancy has already donated $75,000 to support this program.

Drainage 
Bronxville Village Administrator Jim Palmer reported that the Board had a site visit at Dusenberry and Archer Roads to review plans for drainage improvements there. 
 
Drainage improvements are underway at the Hamilton/Sussex/Argyle and Sherman areas.  

The Bronxville Department of Public Works team is also cleaning catch basins throughout the Village.

Tennis
The Bronxville clay tennis courts were resurfaced and are up and running.

New Equipment
The existing boiler in the Library has exceeded its useful life (over 25 years old). It is being replaced with a natural gas-fired boiler. The cost is $373,600, which will be funded by the Village ($273,600), and an anticipated $100,000 from a grant or debt if the grant is not received.

Some computer equipment in Village Hall needs to be replaced, at a cost of $21,000.  

The Village is purchasing a man-hole lifter for $13,213.

Climate Smart Communities Task Force
Trustee Knapp spoke about the “Climate Smart Communities Task Force.” She said that Bronxville had been part of the “Climate Smart Communities” program for four years and that this program identifies concrete steps that municipalities can take to be more environmentally sustainable. 

The Trustees named Thomas Morzello as the Bronxville coordinator of this program. There are 10 people on this Task Force, including two Bronxville School students.

Public Comment
A resident requested that the village water the dog park.  

The same resident said that she is shopping less in the Village.  She said she doesn’t like parking in the lot on Cedar Street because she has had too many “close calls.” 

She also said that when she was near the Acme supermarket, she encountered a large woman trying to speak with her, which was scary.  She noted that she doesn’t scare easily as she was once an assistant DA in the Bronx. She asked the Village to consider having more of a police presence in the Village.  

Mayor Marvin said the Village is starting its police foot and bicycle patrol next week through September.
