Bronxville and Tuckahoe Seniors to Celebrate Active Aging Week September 23 to September 27: Free and Open to All

Sep. 17, 2014:  Senior Centers in Bronxville and Tuckahoe will celebrate Active Aging Week during the last week of September with a variety of free activities open to the public. 

On Saturday, September 27,Bronxville's second annual Salute to Seniors Day will begin at 10:00 am on the lawn of The Bronxville School. Community organizations will have informational tables set up on Pondfield Road, and many local businesses will be offering "silver" discounts and specials for seniors.

The Bronxville Public Library will present a performance by Elvis tribute artist Dino Bravo at 2:00 pm.

This daylong celebration of our older neighbors is co-sponsored by the Senior Citizens Council, Bronxville Senior Citizens, and Gramatan Village, with support from the Village of Bronxville, NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, The Community Fund, and the Bronxville Rotary. In addition, on Tuesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 25, anyone 55+ is invited to be a Bronxville senior for the week and attend bridge class on September 23 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am; exercise classes on Tuesday the 23rd and Thursday the 25th from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm; and tai chi on Thursday, September 25, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. All of these programs are free and open to the public and will be held in the Edwards Room of The Reformed Church of Bronxville.

In addition, Bronxville Seniors will present a special program at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, by Robert Riggs and Marilynn Hill on Alexander Masterton and the famous Tuckahoe marble. Light refreshments will follow. Then at 2:30 pm, there will be a half-hour class of Zumba Gold, exercising to music. On Thursday morning, September 25, at 9:15 am, there will be a book discussion of humorist Roger Rosenblatt's Rules for Aging. These programs also will be held in the Edwards Room of The Reformed Church.

The Tuckahoe Senior Center is hosting a patriotic music program presented by Lu Gmoser on Thursday, September 18. On Tuesday, September 23, at 1:00 pm, there will be a Mediterranean Feast cooking demo with Chef Tina, co-sponsored by Gramatan Village. Both programs are free and open to the public and will be held at Father Fata Hall, Annunciation Church, Tuckahoe.
