Sept. 17, 2025: The Bronxville football team opened its season at home last Saturday with a convincing 35-13 win over Westlake. The last time the two teams met was in 2023, when the Broncos defeated Westlake to win the Class C Sectional Championship.

The stands at Chambers Field were packed with fans as the Broncos and Wildcats took the field. In this opening game of the season, both teams started out slowly with Westlake taking an early 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
“Coming out for our first game, we were expecting a slow start,” said co-captain and three-year varsity player Thomas Freeman. “It’s always hard to get past those first game jitters, and we ended up going down seven early. During halftime, our coaches were able to inspire us and help us reach the level we know we can play.”
There was a big momentum change as the Broncos settled down in the second half of the game.
In the third quarter, Bronxville got on the board with the first of four touchdowns by senior running back Brian Formato, but the Wildcats quickly regained the lead, bringing the score to 13-7. Just a minute later, a long pass from Theo McMurray to Freeman set up the Broncos to score their second touchdown on a short pass to Will Molloy in the endzone.

The Bronco offense went on to score four more touchdowns.
“We were able to drive the ball down the field through the air and on the ground,” noted Freeman. “Our linemen were able to create space allowing for our offense to be effective.”
The Bronco defense tightened up in the second half allowing just one Wildcat touchdown.
“Our defense began to click,” said Freeman. “Our secondary had two turnovers, and our interior had several 3rd down stops.”

Formato had an outstanding performance with four touchdowns with 262 yards rushing on 22 carries.

“I thought the game went well,” said Formato. “We fought hard-- definitely some things we can fix, but we kept pushing and that’s what matters. I think we showed a lot of grit on the field. It was a grind after a rough first half as a team, but we really pulled it together.”
Bronxville played in Class B last year but has moved down to Class C this fall due to lower school enrollment. Despite the shift, the team’s schedule still includes some tough competition from Class B including Sleepy Hollow, ranked No. 10 in the LoHud Power Rankings, as well as John Jay-Cross River and Pearl River, both of whom are listed “on the bubble.” Bronxville gets a nod from LoHud, also appearing on the bubble of the rankings.
The Broncos have six games left in the regular season, four of which will be held under lights. They will be on the road for the next two games facing Sleepy Hollow on September 20th at 6:30 PM and at Pearl River on September 27th at 6:00 PM. After that, the team returns home hosting Putnam Valley on October 4th (3:00 PM) and John Jay-Cross River for Homecoming on October 11th (6:00 PM). In the last two weeks of the regular season, the Broncos will play longtime rivals Tuckahoe (Class D) and Valhalla (Class C).
