June 14, 2023: Twenty-eight Broncos headed to the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships last week and returned home with 20 Division 2 medals. At the end of the two-day event, Bronxville ranked among the top ten teams in the state in sheer visits to the podium.
“It was an absolutely amazing weekend and the athletes' performances were, again, off the charts,” said Coach Brian Halling. “We are so proud of all they have done over the course of the year.”
Juliet Winiecki, Mai Ly Reinking, Kara Kochansky, and Danielle Dragoni won the Division 2 State Championship in the 4x100m in 48.90. Twenty minutes after winning the 4x100, this same foursome won the 4x400m in a season’s best time of 3:59.15. Winiecki, Reinking, Kochansky and Dragoni closed out the weekend with their performance in the 4x100m in the Federation Championship competing against teams of all sizes, both public and private. They beat their best time from the day before, this time dropping a new school record time of 48.59.
On the first day of the State Championships, Max Dicker opened with a 12-06 clearance in the pole vault. This performance finished 20th overall in NYS and 9th among Division 2 athletes.
The Broncos competed well in the short distance races. Danielle Dragoni finished 15th overall in D2 in the 100m dash with a time of 12.73. Davis Patterson set a new school record in the 400m dash. His 49.99 was officially the first sub-50 mark in Bronxville history, and he finished 9th in Division 2.
Wyatt Gravier finished 8th overall in the prelims of the 110m hurdles on Friday with a time of 15.76, and qualified him to compete in the finals in the event on Saturday. Gravier lowered his time from prelims to a 15.41 in the finals. This mark was 7th overall in Division 2, missing the podium and All-State honors by a mere .01.
“What a great season for this young man,” said Coach Halling. “We look forward to many more visits to the state meets for Wyatt.”
Juliet Winiecki showed true grit and toughness as a delay in the long jump caused her to have to compete in the event after running both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. With the timing delay and a sudden downpour working against her, Juliet still showed up and gave it her very best placing 18th in 15-11.
In yet another record-breaking Day 1 performance, the boys 4x400m relay team of Dash Kwan, Javier Tomala-Reidel, Gavin Benton, and Davis Patterson ran to a new school record time of 3:24.95 - good for 3rd among public schools in Division 2.
Day 2 of the State Championship started off with Finn Sands who cleared 6-0 in the high jump. This mark tied him for 20th overall in the state and 11th in Division 2.
Also competing on Day 2 were the boys’ and girls’ 4x800m relays. The boys, Ian Gegenwarth, Kieran McBride, Andrew Jensen, and Ellis Goodson, started things off with a 5-second season best time of 8:05.90, finishing 12th in NYS and 4th among Division 2 schools.

The girls’ 4x800m relay, Hope Hershberg, Maddy Stupart, Katie O'Hare, and Maddy Williams, followed the boys with a season best of their own, beating their previous mark by almost 9 seconds. Their time of 9:31.69 was 14th in the state and 4th among Division 2 schools.

Coach Brian Halling summed up the Bronco’s accomplishments in a post on @bxvboystrack.
“That’s a wrap from the NYS Championship meet. Congrats to this amazing team. In numbers, it was 2 days, 28 qualifiers, 6 trips to the podium, 20 state medals, 3 school records broken, 4 state champions, and #onesquaremile. We are so proud of you all!”
