Bronxville and Tuckahoe Senior Citizens Centers Continue to Grow

March 19, 2025: The Bronxville Senior Citizens and the Tuckahoe Senior Citizens, the two organizations under the umbrella of the all-volunteer Senior Citizens Council ("SCC"), are enjoying a banner year. Thanks to the support of local residents, the Community Fund, and local, county, and state governments, not to mention the energetic leadership of the two directors, Lisa McGovern at Bronxville and Michelle Oliva at Tuckahoe, our programs are more robust than ever, serving nearly four hundred seniors.

Founded more than fifty years ago, the SCC’s mission is to combat the isolation and loneliness that are often the scourge of old age, leading to depression and despair. As one member put it, “I needed to get out of the house and be with others. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming.” Another says, “I never expected to make new friends at my advanced age. I am humbled and blessed by the camaraderie here.”
On any given day, at either center some fifty members participate in exercise classes— the most popular probably those led by Evey Riccobono, known for occasionally rewarding one lucky participant with a sexy thong! But that’s just the tip of the iceberg— other fitness classes include tai-chi and chair yoga—and soon they’re going to be trying chair tapdancing at TSC! Members enjoy art classes; playing bridge, mahjong, bingo, and other games; hearing lectures on a variety of topics, health-related and otherwise; going out to lunch together or on field trips.
Coming up are a private tour at the New York Botanical Garden, a day of music, shopping, and lunch at Ace in the Hole productions in New Jersey, and “Springo,” a Bingo night open to the public in late May!

Both groups meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays every month except August, Bronxville at The Reformed Church and Tuckahoe at Father Fata Hall of the Assumption Church. For more detailed information about both centers and their programs, or to support the SCC, visit SCC70.org.
