Bronxville Troop 5 Celebrates Three New Eagle Scouts

By Rob Deichert, Scout Master
May 26, 2026: Bronxville Troop 5 honored its three newest Eagle Scouts during a special Eagle Court of Honor ceremony held at the historic Scout Cabin in Bronxville on April 19.
William Hogue, Luke Guszkowski, and Marco Hernandez became Eagle Scouts numbers 110, 111, and 112 in the troop’s more than 36-year history, joining the highest rank in Scouting after years of leadership, service, outdoor adventure, and personal growth. Only a small percentage of Scouts nationwide ultimately earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
The ceremony brought together family members, fellow Scouts, alumni, and troop leaders to recognize the achievements of the three seniors and reflect on the values of Scouting and service to the community.
Troop 5 Scoutmaster Robert Deichert noted the significance of the milestone, particularly because these were the first Eagle Scouts he had known “essentially from the beginning” of their Scouting journey.
“These are the moments you hope for as a Scoutmaster,” Deichert said during the ceremony. “Watching young Scouts grow into leaders that others trust and look up to. Eagle is not the finish line. It’s a standard.”
The ceremony highlighted the long tradition of Scouting in Bronxville, which dates back to the early 1900s and includes former Bronxville Scout President John F. Kennedy. Troop 5, chartered by the Reformed Church of Bronxville, currently has more than 29 active Scouts and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2020.
Each of the new Eagle Scouts was recognized for his individual accomplishments both inside and outside of Scouting.
William Hogue, a senior at Bronxville High School, began Scouting as a Tiger Scout and went on to serve as Chaplain Aide and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. A standout student-athlete, Hogue is a two-time All-American in track and field, a National Merit Semifinalist, and has completed some of the Northeast’s most challenging endurance hikes. For his Eagle Scout project, he built a community garden at Mount Vernon 1st Reformed Church to provide fresh produce for the local community.
Luke Guszkowski, also a senior at Bronxville High School, joined Troop 5 in sixth grade and served in leadership roles including Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. His Eagle Scout project partnered with El Centro Hispano to create and lead an arts and crafts teaching program designed to help young students build English vocabulary while learning new skills. Guszkowski has also volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club and participated in international conservation work in Peru and Ecuador.
Marco Hernandez, a senior at Fordham Preparatory School, joined Cub Scouts in first grade and crossed over into Troop 5 in 2019. Over the years, he held numerous troop leadership roles including Senior Patrol Leader at Camp Read and Order of the Arrow Representative. Hernandez served as a National Youth Leadership Training participant and guide. His Eagle Scout project transformed the multipurpose room at Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School by replacing the facility’s aging ceiling.
Throughout the ceremony, troop leaders emphasized that earning the rank of Eagle Scout represents much more than completing requirements. Former Scoutmaster Jon Denfeld described Eagle Scouts as young people “qualified to help others as well as take care of themselves.”
The Eagle Scouts were presented with Eagle medals, neckerchiefs customized with “Troop 5,” and American flags flown over the United States Capitol.
The ceremony concluded with the Eagle Scout Pledge and a standing ovation from the packed audience inside the Scout Cabin.
Troop 5 meets weekly in Bronxville and continues to provide leadership, outdoor adventure, and service opportunities for local youth throughout the year. Families interested in learning more about Scouting or visiting a troop meeting are always welcome.
