Feb. 9, 2024: Philip Lombardo passed away on January 5, 2024 after a short illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Josephine (Franco) Lombardo.  Philip graduated from the University of Missouri and Harvard Business School. 

His broadcasting career began as floor manager, director and producer at CBS Television station WBBM in Chicago.  His next career move was as General Manager for Avco Corporation’s WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Two years later, he became General Manager and Vice President of WGHP-TV, owned by Southern Broadcasting, High Point / Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

His success then led him to New York City as President of Dun & Bradstreet’s TV corporation, Corinthian Broadcasting. After his departure from Corinthian, he built his own company, Citadel Communications. Citadel owned television stations in Burlington, Vermont; Binghamton, New York; Buffalo, New York; Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa; Rock Island/Moline, Illinois; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Providence, Rhode Island.

When Philip decided to semi-retire, he sold his stations and decided to spend his time playing golf and residing half the year in Bronxville, New York, and the other half in Longboat Key, Florida.  To keep busy in Florida, he purchased SNN, the Sarasota News Network.

During his career, Philip was Chairman of the Joint Board of Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters, and Chairman of the Board of the Broadcasters Foundation of America.  He was also a Trustee of the Sarasota Ballet.  In 2015, he was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.

Philip is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn (Kim), his two sons, Dean and Jeffrey, and four grandchildren. He and Kim have lived in Bronxville for 51 years.
