Burglar Apprehended by Bronxville Police Sentenced to 18 Years

Apr. 27, 2016: On March 20, 2016, 48-year-old Carmelo Rivera of the Bronx was convicted after a trial of burglary in the first degree (a class B felony) and sentenced to 18 years in state prison with five years post-release supervision.
On July 1, 2014, Bronxville Police responded to a 911 call reporting an apartment burglary on Kensington Road. A ground-floor bedroom window had been broken, and two firearms and jewelry had been stolen.
Detective William Carroll and Sergeant Nicholas DeYoung processed the crime scene and collected blood evidence, which was submitted to the Westchester County Division of Forensic Sciences for examination.
On August 13, 2014, the Division of Forensic Sciences advised Detective Carroll that the blood sample he had collected at the crime scene matched a known sample in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) belonging to Carmelo Rivera.
On August 28, 2014, Detective Carroll effected the arrest of Rivera with the assistance of the New York State Department of Corrections Division of Parole.
