Bronco Update: Alston Tarry Scores 1000th Point in Game Against Keio and Indoor Track and Field Teams Win Sectional Championships

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer
Feb. 14, 2018: In an away basketball game against North Salem on February 5, senior Alston Tarry needed just 24 points to reach the 1000-point mark. In a tough game against a good team, Tarry managed to score 23, just one point shy of that 1000-point record.
Two days later, the Broncos played Keio at home, and the Bronxville fans held their breath waiting for the shot that would put Tarry over the coveted 1000-point mark. When the game started, Tarry's teammates wasted no time setting him up, and just 30 seconds in, Tarry hit a three-pointer to put his name in the record books. In celebration of his achievement, members of the senior class and many of Tarry's teammates from the lacrosse and soccer teams stormed the court.
The game was stopped and Tarry was presented with the game ball. Coach Bobby Russo and former coach Brian Senior joined Tarry on the court. It is no easy feat to score 1000 points, and Tarry joins just three other Broncos who have reached that milestone: Pat Dowd (Class of '82), Tom Priore ('87), and Dominique de la Torre (Class of '04).
Tarry, a three-sport varsity athlete, started on the varsity basketball team as an eighth-grader and was All-League and All-Conference last year. He scored over 100 points as a freshman, close to 300 in each of his sophomore and junior years, and 330 this season. Tarry, who also plays soccer and lacrosse, will be a co-captain of the lacrosse team this spring and has committed to play lacrosse at Bucknell University next fall.
The boys' basketball team has finished the regular season and will enter Class B playoffs this week. The Broncos (10-9) are seeded No. 12 and will play No. 5 Dobbs Ferry (15-5) on Thursday at 6:15 pm.
The girls' basketball team (14-6) is ranked No. 5 and will face No. 12 Blind Brook (10-10) on Thursday at home at 4:30 pm.
Bronco Update, Indoor Track and Field
The boys' and girls' indoor track and field teams easily won their respective league championships in January, and they continued their success at sectionals on Monday night. Competing against twelve teams, the girls won the Class C Sectional Championship with 171 points. Finishing in second place was Irvington, with 96. It was the 22nd consecutive Class C title for the girls' team.
The Bronco girls always have top relay teams, and they swept the relays at sectionals. At the Millrose Games held in early February, the 4x800m team, Natalie Weiner, Patty Haggerty, Laura Holland, and Caroline Brashear, placed 8th in 9:23.65, a season-best time that places them No. 1 in Section 1 and No. 4 in New York State.
The boys' team scored 103 points to win the sectional championship and was followed by Irvington, with 88 points. For complete results, see below.
