Elizabeth Goulsby Ware Dies March 11, 2014, at 89

Mar. 19, 2014:  Elizabeth (Betty) Ware, wife of Edward Van Stan Ware (deceased) and longtime resident of Bronxville, died peacefully on March 11, 2014. She was 89.

Born Elizabeth Jane Goulsby, she was the daughter of Colonel Theodore Goulsby (retired brigadier general) and Mary Turner Goulsby of Atlanta, Georgia. Betty attended The Westminster School in Atlanta.

She married Lieutenant Edward Van Stan Ware on June 8, 1943. They raised four children, Ted, Dianne, Karol, and Beth, in Bronxville.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Holzel of Litchfield, CT, and Beth Morgan of Duxbury, MA, and Bronxville, and six grandchildren: Brooks Ware of Concord, MA, Adam Ware of Andover, MA, Peter Holzel of Boston, MA, Margaret Lange of Greenwich, CT, Jane Morgan of Duxbury, MA, and George Morgan of Duxbury, MA. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Betty was an avid tennis and bridge player and a loving mother and homemaker. She was an active member and sustainer of the Junior League of Bronxville and a longtime volunteer for Lawrence Hospital and the American Heart Association. She had a keen interest in politics and enjoyed attending events at the Foreign Policy Association in New York City.

A private family service and burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville.
