Mar. 11, 2015: The original Topps Bakery opened over 80 years ago and has been owned and run by four families. The current owners, Jacqueline and Heath Lachman, have owned it now for over eight years.
This sweets shop does a bustling breakfast business with its jelly doughnuts, which won a Westchester Magazine "Best of Westchester" award--small for $1.75 or large for $2.75. Its crumb buns at $2.00 each and its almond paste melt-a-way coffee cake for $9.50 are other customer favorites. It also has a pecan custard ring that comes in a single serving for $4.50 or a size that has four to six slices for $15.00.
There are lots of cakes to choose from, but the chocolate mousse cake is its most popular (six slices for $28.00). Its second-most popular cake is the vanilla fudge cake (six to eight slices for $26.00). It's very popular for birthday parties. Third is its carrot cake, which comes four to six slices for $22.50 or eight to ten slices for $37.00. Its cheesecake is another winner and it is gluten-free. It can serve four to six people for $18.00 or ten to fifteen for $40.00. There are mini-fruit tarts for $4.25 or a size with four to six slices for $22.00. Its apple pie is also a "Best of Westchester" winner ($16.00 for four to six slices or $21.00 for six to eight slices).
All year Topps makes delicious petit fours at $2.00 each that are decorated on top seasonally. Pick up a cupcake for $3.25. It changes the flavors and icing every three weeks.
Topps also carries bread, candy, and delicious assorted cookies at $18.00 per pound. For $21.00 you can walk away with an assorted cookie tray that is all wrapped and ready to go as a hostess gift or as a gift for someone who is sick.
Each day this bakery bakes 221 items, and you see people coming and going all day long to bring something yummy home or to sit and eat their goodies right there in the store.
The Lachmans also own Topps Wine & Liquor Store, which is located a couple of doors down from the bakery.
