Apr. 20, 2016: The Bronxville Rotary Club will recognize Mary Liz Mulligan for her exceptional volunteer service at its annual dinner and auction on Saturday, April 30, at 6:00 pm at Siwanoy Country Club. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Bronxville Community Garden at Maltby Field, as well as Midnight Run and Meals on Wheels.
A lifelong resident of Bronxville, Mulligan is being honored for her outstanding work on behalf of the Village Green Committee, the Senior Citizens Council, Gramatan Village, The Nature Preserve, and the Bronxville Farmers' Market. Mulligan helped launch the farmers' market in 2001 and served as manager from 2006 until January of 2016, when she stepped down. Under her leadership, the market grew from four vendors to forty and is currently one of the most popular in the region and the third largest in Westchester County.
In 2007, noting Mulligan's accomplishments with the farmers' market, Mayor Mary Marvin recruited her to serve on the Village Green Committee. As committee chair, Mulligan established several successful projects, including the Love 'Em & Leave 'Em initiative, designed to reduce organic yard waste; Take-Back Day, a semiannual recycling day; and, most recently, the Community Garden at Maltby Park. She also serves on the board of The Nature Preserve. Westchester Municipal Planning Federation recognized Mulligan's environmental efforts with a Distinguished Citizen Planner Award in 2016.
Since 1993, Mulligan has been actively involved with the Senior Citizens Council ("SCC"), serving as treasurer and, for the past nine years, as administrator. She was also a member of the first Gramatan Village board. Prior to managing the farmers' market, Mulligan was executive director of the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce.
In recognizing Mulligan's extraordinary volunteer efforts, Bronxville Rotary president Bob Seabring said,
"From her efforts on behalf of our senior citizens, to her environmental work, Mary Liz Mulligan works tirelessly to enrich the quality of life in our village. The Rotary is pleased to honor her extraordinary volunteer service. We're especially delighted the proceeds from our April 30 event will benefit the Community Garden at Maltby Field, a project particularly dear to Mary Liz's heart and a place the entire community will enjoy."
The Bronxville Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, an organization with 1.2 million members whose mission is to come together to create positive and lasting change in our communities and around the world.
