Dear Friends & Neighbors,
I hope you are all well and enjoying the lovely spring weather. It is great to see all our kids out and about on the school property as we look towards graduation and summer break.
As many of you are aware, there is a contested Board of Education election this year and I am standing for re-election after completing my first 3-year term, along with fellow incumbent Trustees Peter McSherry and Mike Brandes. What most of you are probably not aware of, is that this is the first time in over thirty years where BOE Trustees seeking a second term are being challenged. Let that sink in for a moment. As someone who spent 13 years of my life at the Bronxville School as a student, and more recently, four years as a parent, the reason for this historic precedent is clear; the Bronxville community overwhelmingly supports experienced and stable leadership. Between me, Pete and Mike, we have 30 years of parental experience in the Big School. As Board of Ed Trustees, we have a combined nine years of school leadership experience and the institutional knowledge, insight and strong relationships (built over years) required to navigate the complex challenges the school faces on a daily basis. By almost every measure, the school is performing at an exceptionally high level and yet we never sit on our laurels.
As BOE Trustees, we have many jobs and wear many hats. I have proudly been the liaison to the PTA and the Bronxville School Foundation, two organizations that dramatically impact the school and our ability to deliver the finest educational and extra-curricular experience to our students. It has been a pleasure working with these best-in-class volunteers and I am grateful for the accomplishments we have achieved together.
I have been on the Strategy & Curriculum Committee twice, the Negotiations Committee (teacher contract signed in 2024), the Professional Development Committee, the Health & Safety Committee and the Facilities Committee for three years, which I’ve chaired for the past two. This experience puts me, as an incumbent, in a position to continue the work we’ve been doing for the last three years without missing a beat.
One accomplishment of this current board that I’m especially proud of is that we don’t have a political agenda and everyone checks their personal beliefs at the door as they enter the building. In the current climate, this is a prerequisite for anyone considering a run for the Board of Education, especially in Bronxville, a community full of wonderful people with different views but one common point of focus - The Bronxville School. Afterall, people move here first and foremost for the education and the easiest way to dismantle that winning formula is to inject political biases and agendas onto the Board of Education. No political party should be represented on the BOE.
Traditionally, the Board of Education has been overweight with parents of older kids, however, for the first time in decades it is nicely balanced between Elementary School, Middle School and High School. This balance and cooperation are no better illustrated than in the upcoming $20 million capital project which is hyper focused on the Elementary School. For the last two years, the BOE has worked diligently to plan this exciting and overdue infrastructure project. It includes treating / fixing / replacing structural steel, refacing the damaged brick and masonry facade, replacing windows and lintels, replacing unit ventilators, removing asbestos flooring, renovating bathrooms, replacing casework, installing a new elevator and much more. I’ve come to really appreciate the benefit of a wide range of parent experiences on the BOE and how the vast knowledge accumulated over years of having students in the school helps us as a team. Everything from our curious kiddos to the awkward and difficult middle school years and then the demands of advanced placement exams, test prep, counseling, athletics and the transition to college. It is imperative that the BOE reflect the entire school because that is what a well-rounded board should look like. If we over represent on one end, it will negatively affect the other, so maintaining a balance is key. At the reorg meeting in July, if the current board remains intact, we will have equal representation across the entire school. While a few of our Trustees will no longer have students in the building, they will have valuable insight specifically into the high school experience as it carries over into higher education and what we can learn as a district to make the school even more competitive.
As May 20th approaches, I would ask that the community weigh the pros and cons of supporting / removing three knowledgeable, passionate, hardworking and dedicated Board of Education Trustees, who have the best interests of the school and your students in mind, at a time when experience and stability is what’s needed most. Thank you for giving me your trust to do what’s best for your kids K-12 education and supporting this effort to win a second term on the Bronxville School Board of Education. I am grateful for your vote of confidence. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out, regardless of whether you support me or not.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
