Jan. 28, 2026: The boys’ indoor track and field team has posted impressive results at the Westchester County Championship for the past two years. In 2024, the Broncos finished 4th overall, and last year Class C Bronxville captured the Westchester County Championship title. This meet is a highly competitive event that brings together 28 schools of all sizes from across the county.
With many talented and high-scoring seniors graduating last year, it was hard to imagine how the Broncos could repeat as champions. But on Saturday at the Armory, Bronxville did just that. The boys’ team was named Westchester County Champion for the second year in a row, winning the meet with 67 points. New Rochelle placed 2nd with 61 points and was followed by Hendrik Hudson with 50 and Scarsdale with 44.
“We're really proud of the guys for coming together to win the County Championship again,” said Coach Brian Halling. “We obviously lost some extremely talented seniors that accounted for the majority of our points at last year's meet. These individuals include Wyatt Gravier, Kieran McBride, Davis Patterson, Alex Napolitano, Matthew McSherry, Finbar DeMarr, and many others. Given the sheer volume of athletes we lost to graduation, it was safe to say that another County Championship seemed well out of reach when the year started. However, the team has really come together and shown tremendous growth since the start of the year.”
At the meet, Bronxville had 12 boys score points, an impressive display of depth. In indoor track and field, points are awarded to the top six finishers in each event.
The Broncos had a particularly strong showing in field events, scoring a total of 28 points. Senior Vincent D’Amato, who placed 5th in the triple jump at Counties last year, claimed first place this season with a jump of 42-01.5—a personal record. Junior Zijun Xu competed in two field events, placing 2nd in the shot put and 5th in the weight throw. Junior Will Bringle also added valuable points with a 2nd place finish in the high jump.
In individual track events, the boys had three 2nd place finishes: Carl Kirst in the 55m (6.76), Matthew Jensen in the 3200m (9:33.77), and John Sekula in the 55m hurdles (7.92). The 4x400m relay team of Javier Tomala-Reidel, Grant Patterson, Spencer Martin, and John Sekula also finished 2nd with a time of 3:34.95.
“It's been awesome to watch newcomers contribute in so many ways while also seeing veteran seniors like Vincent D'Amato, John Sekula, and Carl Kirst come up with huge performances when we needed them the most,” said Coach Halling. “We witnessed 14 personal bests that included two school records - Vincent D'Amato in the triple jump and Matthew Jensen in the 3200m. We're extremely proud of the team for winning such a competitive meet, especially overcoming a critical disqualification in one of our very best events--the 4x800m relay.”
The Bronxville girls’ team won the Class C County Championship and finished 4th overall at the County Championship with 45 points. New Rochelle secured the team title with 77 points, followed by Scarsdale with 60 and Hen Hud with 48.
Freshman Mia Horgan delivered a personal best performance, placing 2nd in the 3000m in 10:30.70. She was outpaced by Sloan Wasserman, a senior at John Jay-Cross River, who won the race in 9:41.35. Wasserman’s time in the 3000m was the second-fastest in the U.S. this season.
The Broncos also earned a 2nd place finish in the 4x800m relay with Mia Horgan, Emerson Dennis, Jesse O’Gorman, and Carina Winiecki finishing in a time of 10:07.49. In the pole vault, junior Eva Mihova added to Bronxville’s scoring with a second-place finish, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.
