Jan. 30, 2025: It was an exceptional week for the talented Bronxville track and field teams. On Saturday the boys’ team had an impressive finish at the Westchester County Championships. They repeated as Class C Champion and also claimed the overall County Championship by finishing first among schools of all sizes. The girls’ team also repeated as the Class C Champion and placed 4th overall in Westchester County.
“The boys competed extremely well and truly came together to accomplish this task,” said Coach Brian Halling. “Despite the size and amazing talent on some of the other teams in the county, the boys rallied together with several of our team members competing in multiple events to score the most points possible.”
The Bronco boys won the meet with 75 points followed by Horace Greeley and New Rochelle who both scored 59. On the girls’ side, New Rochelle placed first with 84, followed by Scarsdale (44), Ursuline (43), and Bronxville (41).
The boys’ team won four individual events at Counties and established their dominance by securing top five finishes in nine events.
The standouts included Wyatt Gravier who won the County Championship in both the 55m hurdles (7.48) and the high jump (6-0) and was also part of the 4x400m relay. Davis Patterson, who also ran the 4x400m relay, contributed to the scoring with a first-place finish in the 600m (1:22.82), a third-place finish in the 300m (35.81). Gravier, Patterson, Tommy Henningson, and Spencer Martin placed 2nd in the 4x400m relay in a season’s best time of 3:29.40.
Kieran McBride, Jack Toal, Will Hogue, and Julian Gonzalez ran the 4x800m relay in 8:22.49 capturing the County Title. They placed four seconds ahead of second-place New Rochelle (8:26.48) and almost 24 seconds ahead of third-place Fox Lane. McBride also had a second-place finish in the 1000m (2:37.46).
Spencer Martin, who placed 12th in the long jump, set a school record with a jump of 19-8.5.
The girls’ team placed in the top five in seven events, including a County Championship for senior Maddy Williams who won the 1500m with a season’s best time of 4:51.86.
The Broncos had strong finishes in the relays with the 4x400m team of Juliet Winiecki, Ella McCalla, Eva Mihova, and Kara Kochansky placing 3rd in 4:04.69 and the 4x800m relay team of Finlay Rowan, Carina Winiecki, Emerson Dennis, Maddy Williams placing 4th in 10:13.85.
Both teams competed at the Leagues the weekend before Counties, each capturing their respective League 3B Championship. The boys won with 187.5 points followed by Irvington with 119 and Dobbs Ferry with 89.5. The girls crushed the competition scoring 220 points to second-place Dobbs Ferry with 62.
At Leagues, the girls placed first in 11 out of 15 events, and the boys placed first in 7 out of 14 events.
