Oct. 14, 2015: Bronxville resident Alisa Kano (20) qualified with her teammates on the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics Group for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The team qualified at the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships on September 12 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Alisa attended Bronxville Middle School and High School until her junior year. She was selected as a member of U.S. Rhythmic National Group Team in 2012, and she moved to Chicago for training.
This is the first time the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics Group has qualified for the Olympics, although it did have a host country spot at the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996.
Reporter Karen Price wrote on TeamUSA.org on September 29 about the day the team qualified at the World Championships: "They'd executed well, delivered a clean routine and done the best they could, so when the score of 16.066 appeared they were overjoyed. It was their second score of 16 or better in the competition to go along with a 16.233 in six clubs/two hoops, and they'd never done so well before."

They thought they had qualified for the Olympic Games Test Event in April of 2016, but "they had no idea that they'd just secured an Olympic berth for the United States," said Ms. Price. It was only when they were back in their hotel rooms that they learned of this accomplishment.
Ms. Price quotes Alisa's description of her learning of the feat: "'My roommate, Monica Rokhman, was in the shower and I yelled, "Monica, I think we made the Olympics! I think we're actually going to the Olympics!"' Kano said. 'She started bawling. We all did.'"
As a young girl of nine, Alisa developed a love of rhythmic gymnastics, said Ms. Price, and she dreamed of being in the Olympics. "'It was honestly a dream I didn't think was possible,' [Alisa] said. 'It would be a dream come true. Now it actually came true, so for us it's just amazing that we can represent the U.S. in Rio.'"
Alisa is the daughter of proud Bronxville resident Eva Kano.
