Feb. 10, 2016: The Eastchester Board of Fire Commissioners has named lifetime Eastchester resident Jamie Hedstrom, CPA, MST, as the fire district's treasurer. The board unanimously approved the appointment at a special meeting held on Saturday, January 20.
According to Dennis Winter, board chairman, the treasurer position, open since the death of former fire district treasurer John Melesardi in November of 2015, garnered interest from several well-qualified candidates. "We had many strong candidates," Winter stated, "but one in particular, Jamie Hedstrom, had outstanding qualifications."
Hedstrom is a senior manager at BDO USA, LLP, a global accounting firm with over 4,000 professional staff members and 63 offices in the United States. She has been with the firm for over 15 years.
A member of both the American Society of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Hedstrom earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Fordham University. She achieved her master of science degree in taxation (MST) at Fordham Gabelli School of Business.
Winter noted that the Eastchester Board of Fire Commissioners has elevated the standards as to what its members feel are the qualifications for the treasurer position. "It clearly requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or an accounting-related field," Winter said, "and preferable an advanced degree in one of those fields."
Hedstrom will assume her duties at the Eastchester Fire District on February 8 for a term to expire on December 31, 2016.
