Eastchester Fire Commissioner Election to Be Held Next Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Dec. 7, 2016: The annual Eastchester Board of Fire Commissioners (Fire Board) election will be held next Tuesday, December 13, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm (see voting locations at the end of this article).
The election will determine one board seat. The winner will serve for a five-year term expiring on December 31, 2021. Running in the election this year for the one board seat are incumbent Jerry Napolitano and Stuart Rabin, a Town of Eastchester employee. The Fire District of the Town of Eastchester is funded solely by taxpayers and is a separate and autonomous unit of government from the Eastchester Town government that serves Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe.
The Fire Board consists of five board members, each is elected to serve for a five-year term. Fire Board members serve as volunteers and do not received any compensation.
The Fire Board is responsible for the general administration of the fire district and the preparation and adoption of the annual fire district budget after a public hearing. The board oversees a budget of $16,864,726 and has the ability to bind taxpayers to future expenditures and obligations.
The Fire Board also determines the dollar amount of the annual tax levy needed to operate the fire district.
