Bronxville Police Blotter for January 9 to January 13, 2016

Monday, January 9, 1:29 pm:  There was a motor vehicle accident on Lower Milburn involving two vehicles. There were no injuries. An information exchanged was prepared.

Tuesday, January 10, 9:16 pm:  A passerby on Orchard Road reported that the front door of a residence was ajar. Police officers cleared the residence for occupancy, and all appeared to be in order. 

Wednesday, January 11, 7:19 am:  A resident reported an erratic driver traveling southbound on Midland Avenue without the use of headlights and provided the license plate number. Officers located the vehicle at the corner of Gramatan Avenue and Palumbo Place. The driver was issued a citation for operating at night without headlights. No other violations were observed, and the driver appeared to be in normal condition. 

Thursday, January 12, 10:22 pm:  A 28-year-old man from Stamford, CT, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree (class A misdemeanor). The driver was observed crossing over the double yellow line to take an angled parking spot and struck a parked vehicle. Subsequent inquiries revealed four active suspensions. The driver was processed and released on $250 bail pending his next court appearance. 

Thursday, January 12, 10:22 pm:  A 22-year-old man from Harlem was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree (class D felony) for attempting to cash a forged check for $791.05 at Capital One Bank on 12/20/2016 at 10:22 hours. Detective Valentin was able to utilize village surveillance cameras to help identify the getaway vehicle, the driver, and the 22-year-old man, who was arraigned before Judge McKinnis and released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance. 

Friday, January 13, 8:48 pm:  A homeowner reported that a silver Diamondback mountain bike valued at $650 was stolen from a storage unit in the basement of the Rivermere building overnight. The incident is being investigated.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
