Jun. 14, 2017:  The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Inc., at its annual meeting held on Tuesday, May 30, announced that during the 2017-18 fiscal year it will award $529,420 in grants to 21 social service agencies and community organizations for 23 programs serving the Bronxville, Bronxville 10708, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe communities.

"We are excited to be able to provide such significant funding to these important not-for-profit organizations serving the neediest in our BET community," commented Neal Denning, president of The Community Fund. "We are grateful for the generosity of our donors and of our board members, staff, and volunteer evaluators who've worked so hard to ensure that these agencies are maximizing the impact of our collective generosity.

Amy Korb, evaluations co-chair, added, "Our evaluators, working within a fully vetted evaluation process, are committed to ensuring that the money we are so generously given is kept within the Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe communities and thoughtfully allocated to agencies and programs that best fulfill the proven needs of our residents."

As part of the annual grant award process, The Community Fund also announced eight recipients of the Michael Frey Scholarship Award. This award provides scholarships to local graduating seniors in memory of Michael Frey, an Eastchester police officer who lost his life in the line of duty, and in appreciation of the dedicated emergency workers in Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe. The students are nominated by their guidance counselors for demonstrating a commitment to dedicated service and support of their fellow students and the community at large.

Eileen Frey, Michael's mother, was in attendance to hand out the awards and acknowledge the following students: Ellie Briskin, Maxine Devitt, and Foster Harlfinger from Bronxville High School, Matthew Roche and Megan Sinanis from Eastchester High School, and Gustavo Bovin, Andrianna Santorelli, and Asia Thrower from Tuckahoe High School.

Melinda Burge, executive director of The Community Fund, noted, "We are so pleased that we are able to continue our tradition of remembering Michael Frey with this scholarship that celebrates student leaders who embody the same spirit of generosity and commitment to public service. Having Eileen with us to hand out the awards is always an honor and truly makes the evening particularly special."
