Saturday, June 17, 4:57 pm, Prescott Avenue: A homeowner reported that a package that he had not ordered was delivered to his residence. The incident is being investigated.

Tuesday, June 20, 10:53 am, The ByWay: A homeowner reported that she discovered that a third-story window to her residence had been broken. Responding detectives determined that the break was an attempt to gain entry to the residence. No items were reported missing at that time. The incident is being investigated.

Tuesday, June 20, 2:39 pm: A juvenile female reported that while walking home, an unknown male riding a bicycle followed her and attempted to talk to her. Using village surveillance cameras, detectives were able to identify, locate, and interview the male. The 20-year-old Mount Vernon resident stated that he was unaware of the youthful age of the female and that he was only trying to be friendly. No crime was committed.

Wednesday, June 21, 12:08 am, Bronxville train station:  A woman reported that a suspicious male exited the train with her after asking for a piece of gum and her destination. Officers followed up and determined that the male had intended to exit at the Bronxville station. No crime was committed.

Wednesday, June 21, 12:41 pm: While conducting a dark house check, Police Officer Cavallo observed an unlocked garage door. The homeowner was contacted and after a check of the interior, the residence was secured by officers.

Friday, June 23, 3:59 pm, Pine Terrace:  Barking dog complaint; unfounded.

Friday, June 23, 8:14 pm, Parkway Road:  A 31-year-old male from Hawthorne was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (unclassified misdemeanor) after a License Plate Reader alarm indicated the crime to Officer Butler. The man was also cited for an Unregistered Vehicle and Operating Without Insurance. His 2006 Hummer HU3 was impounded and he was released from the scene pending his next court appearance.

Saturday, June 24, 12:10 pm, Lawrence Hospital:  A caller reported that she had observed what she believed to be an illegal drug in the possession of a patient. Officers field tested the substance and determined that it was not an illegal substance. No crime was committed.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
