Jul. 12, 2017:  Village Administrator Jim Palmer reported that work needed to complete the FEMA project, also known as the flood mitigation project, includes the installation of a fence around the perimeter of the pumps on The Bronxville School campus. In addition, Palmer said, shrubs and arborvitae trees will be planted on Midland Avenue in the vicinity of the project’s construction site.

Palmer stated that the flood mitigation system will be tested later this month when water is put through the force main, pump station, and system that is designed to carry excess flood water to Laurel Brook near Palumbo Place. Palmer stated that personnel from the DPW as well as the Eastchester Fire Department are planned to be on hand for the testing.

In conjunction with the completion of the flood mitigation project, Midland Avenue will be repaved from the intersection of Pondfield Road to Masterton Road. All four crosswalks at Pondfield Road and Midland Avenue will be repaved with red brick. Other street paving in the area will occur on Crow’s Nest Road and Village Lane.

Consolidated Edison will restore the permanent sidewalk on the southeasterly side of Midland Avenue. When a depression in the street’s pavement over the winter revealed that several gas lines needed to be replaced, the village authorized the utility to complete that work. Upon finishing the installation of new gas lines, Consolidated Edison installed temporary sidewalks. The new permanent sidewalk will extend from Pondfield Road to just past Library Lane.

In cooperation with the school, the village will also repave the elementary school parking lot, which was used as a construction staging area for much of the flood mitigation project.
