Bronxville School Board Election is on May 18: Who's Running & What's On the Ballot

May 12, 2021: The Bronxville School Annual Board Election and Budget Vote will take place on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM in the blue gym of the Bronxville School, 177 Pondfield Road. Voters should use the school entrance on Meadow Avenue. Masks are required.
There are three items on the Ballot
Proposition 1: Voters will be asked to vote YES or NO on the proposed 2021-2022 school district budget of $50,618,988, The proposed school budget can be found here.
Proposition 2: Voters will be asked to vote YES or NO on the proposition to authorize extending by ten years (to twenty years) the term of the “Capital Project Fund."
Two Trustee Positions: Voters will be asked to vote for two candidates to fill the two open seats on the Board that are currently held by Jonathan Atkeson and Thomas R. Evans. According to the Public Notice dated April 20, 2021, there was a drawing of lots to determine placement on the ballot.
The candidates for each of the open seats are shown below. The Trustee term is three years.

Liam S. Heraty

Liam Heraty is a senior at the Bronxville School and is heading to Yale in the fall to study Education and Mathematics. He is running to provide the perspective of a recent student on the Board. As he says in his letter to the community, "I don’t have expertise in finance or accounting, nor in management or administration. What I do hold expertise in is experience: the specific experience the Board wishes to directly support and foster. As a recent student with the utmost desire for the success of the school, it would be both a privilege and an honor to serve the teachers, coaches, parents, administrators, staff, and students of the district who have impacted me so much." Susan Conniff

Susan Conniff is one of the two NPC-endorsed candidates for the School Board. She and her family have been Bronxville residents since 2013. She and her husband have two daughters at the Bronxville School (12th and 10th grades). She graduated from UVA, has a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University and an MBA from UCLA. She has been involved in the PTA, Reformed Church Nursery School and Community Fund and is recognized for her thoughtful approach, diligence and integrity. She is working for a nonprofit focused on increasing college access for low income first generation students. Miki Kapoor

Miki Kapoor is one of the two NPC-endorsed candidates for the School Board. He and his wife, Heidi, are the parents of three children (aged 9, 8, and 3) and Bronxville residents for almost eight years. He graduated from Washington University and received an MBA and MPH in Health Policy from Yale University. He is an active member of the Bronxville community and has served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Bronxville School, the Bronxville Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and, along with several other Bronxville families, helped to organize the Unity Walk for Black Lives Matter in June 2020. He has also served on several other for-profit and not-for-profit boards in the past. He a healthcare operational executive. Martin Palmeri

Martin Palmeri and his family have been residents of Bronxville for over eighteen years. He and his wife have two children in the 4th and 6th grades. Martin has an MBA in Finance, a CPA and CFA and has been a Managing Director at a large global financial services firm for the last fourteen years. If elected to the Board, Martin says that his focus will be "to assure that we continue to provide the best education for our students and that the board supports the administration in their mission of maintaining the reputation of being one of the best school systems in the country." He is also interested in these two areas that he believes "will add to the growth of our students;" a flexible education program and involvement with the local community.
