The Bronxville School Foundation Funds Climbing Wall and Launches Fall Campaign

Nov. 14, 2018: The Bronxville School Foundation has kicked off its annual fall fundraising campaign. The Foundation raises funds to provide students with educational experiences beyond the scope of the school’s budget.
Thanks to the generosity of the Bronxville community, the Foundation has, in recent years, been able to effectively double the discretionary resources of The Bronxville School. This is funding curriculum enhancements, faculty training, and upgrades to equipment and facilities.
Beginning with the 2018 fundraising campaign and ending with the 2019 spring grant process, the Foundation will be awarding grants to administration, faculty, parent, and student grant applicants. In May of 2018, $660,000 in carefully vetted grants were awarded. A majority of these grants have already been implemented and are having an immediate impact on our elementary, middle, and high school students.
Among the 45 innovative grants awarded earlier this year the Foundation funded a new climbing wall for the elementary school. While the climbing wall will enhance students’ physical strength, that is only part of the bigger picture. Climbing activities allow for students to develop critical thinking skills through creating strategies for success. Since every climb isn’t supposed to be successful, students also learn to be patient while trying to accomplish a goal. “In everyday life everyone - students, parent, citizens - work toward goals. Inevitably, there will be some struggle and frustration along the way” said Elementary School Physical Education Teacher, Matt Fisher. “Students will confront challenges on the climbing wall that force them to be persistent and ultimately have a greater feeling of accomplishment at the point of success.”
Every dollar raised by the Foundation is used to fund grants that reach each student and make a meaningful difference in the educational experience at the Bronxville School. The Foundation relies almost exclusively on its fall campaign for grant money. “It is this community’s tradition of generosity and commitment to quality education that allows us to transform innovative grant ideas into reality,” said Executive Director Peggy Williams.
