Bronxville School Board of Education March Meeting Included Discussion of Proposed Budget, Student Presentations, Personnel, and District Operations

By the Bronxville School Board of Education
April 1, 2026: Bronxville Board of Education met on March 19, 2026, to discuss the budget proposal, student-led initiatives, and District personnel updates.
Budget and Finance
Proposed 2026-2027 Budget: The Board discussed a proposed budget of $57.6 million, necessitating a 4.8% tax levy increase.
Drivers of Increase
The increase is attributed to inflation, especially in the areas of health insurance and transportation costs.
Since NYS implemented a 2% tax cap in 2011, Bronxville has held its tax levy to an average annual increase of less than 1.7%, well under the rate of inflation during that period.
Administrators noted that this year, staying under the cap would require programmatic cuts. At its workshops on January 31st and March 7th, the BOE reviewed potential programmatic cuts proposed by the Leadership Team and discussed other efforts underway to reduce the cost of health insurance and transportation.
It was also noted that interscholastic athletic costs have grown in excess of the overall budget for many years.
The BOE believes the proposed assessment increase is preferable to programmatic cuts, and is necessary after years of careful and conservative budget management. However, potential alternatives in the area of health insurance and reductions in the area of transportation are expected going forward, and any areas growing in excess of the overall budget will be carefully considered for efficiencies.
In recent years, several neighboring schools have also proposed and passed above-levy tax increases.
Taxpayer Impact:
Asst. Superintendent for Business Dan Carlin presented an illustration of the tax rate calculation and impact of the proposed assessment increase on a taxpayer:

-Mini-Electives: High school students and faculty presented on the student-facilitated mini-elective program, now in its third year. Featured courses included "One Square Mile" (local history), "Intro to Engineering" (focused on civil engineering), and "Mission to Action" (focused on starting non-profits).
