Eastchester Little League Softball Day at Iona College April 19

Apr. 15, 2015:  On Sunday, April 19, Iona College will host Eastchester Little League Softball Day. Little Leaguers and parents are invited to attend. The doubleheader will be held at Donald E. Walsh Field at Rice Oval in New Rochelle at noon and 2:30 pm, when the Iona Gaels take on the Manhattan Jaspers.

Little League players, parents, and coaches may attend the games at no charge. Little League players should wear their uniform shirt with the Little League official patch in order to be announced and take the field for the national anthem at the start of the doubleheader.

Background:  In order to promote Little League Softball, as well as the college softball experience, Little League Baseball and Softball has worked with various colleges and universities, resulting in these institutions' providing a Little League Softball Day at the collegiate level.

Little League Softball Day is designed to demonstrate what participating in Little League Softball can potentially lead to. Young athletes of all ages will get to see the game of softball at its finest. They will have the complete game experience from the warm-up to the game-ending play.

After the games, Little League players will be invited to interact with the Iona softball players and ask the college players questions and receive autographs, limited to approximately 30 minutes following doubleheader.

Lake Isle is an Eastchester Town-owned facility that is open to all residents and a limited number of non residents. Sprain Lake Golf Course was also designed by Tom Winton. The YWCA Middles Swim Team is a “fully sanctioned YWCA and USA Swimming program. It involves a year round commitment on the part of the swimmer including participation in meets.” They offer four levels of professional instruction and training for swimmers six years and older. Over the past 21 years, they have had swimmers “qualify and swim in the Olympics, US Olympic Trials, the Olympic Festival, USA Nationals, US Open, National Junior Championships, Regionals and Zones and have attained many Top 8 finishes.” Additionally, “the Middies have won the YWCA National Championships for the past 20 consecutive years and now hold many individual and relay records.”
