Feb. 3, 2016: Friday night was The Bronxville School's annual "Bronco Bonanza," a school-wide fan night and celebration of basketball hosted by the Bronxville High School Athletic Council. Proceeds from the event benefit Elizabeth's Hope, a fund that helps to support the Children's Brain Tumor Project at the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center. High school students arrived carrying their celebrity "fatheads" and clad in brightly colored Hawaiian shirts. The fun for spectators included free-throw shooting and limbo contests.
In front of the spirited home crowd, the boys' varsity team cemented a play-off spot by beating league rival Ardsley 48-46. Senior point guard Matt Toal led the scoring with 15, followed by junior Jack Reilly with 11 and sophomore Alston Tarry with 9.
On Sunday, the Broncos traveled to Croton to participate in the "Hoops for Heroes" Tournament, which benefitted members of the U.S. Armed Services. Naval Lieutenant Bobby O'Connor, a Bronxville graduate and former basketball player, was the honorary coach for the Broncos. Bronxville won the game against Haldane by a score of 48-42. Top scorers were Tarry with 20, Toal with 14, and Reilly with 8.
The Broncos have now won six of their last seven games, for an overall record of 10-8. They conclude the regular season this week with a game at Sleepy Hollow on Thursday, February 4, at 6:15 pm.
Go Broncos.
