Mar. 9, 2016: Siwanoy Country Club's A paddle tennis team made history this year by placing first in the top flight of the Westchester County paddle tennis league. Melissa Warble, who plays in the top position with Jen Mackesy, won all ten of her paddle matches to end the season with an undefeated record.
"Paddle is an enjoyable way to exercise outdoors in the winter," said Warble. "It is an exciting and fast-paced game and also very social, so it's a fun way to spend time with friends."
The Westchester women's paddle league has been active for over fifty years. Over 56 teams from private clubs around the county participate in the league every winter. There are nine flights, and each year teams compete every week for points within their flight. Based on the results at the end of each season, a team may be moved up a flight if they win the most points, or down a flight if they have the least amount of points.
"We had a great season, thanks to the cooperation and hard work of our players and the coaching of our pro at Siwanoy, Mark Parsons," said Siwanoy's captain, Kathy Wynne.
More information on the league is available at www.MIPTL.com. A board of player-volunteers runs the league. Siwanoy player Maggie Marrone has been president of the MIPTL (Metropolitan Interclub Platform Tennis) board for over twelve years.
