May 25, 2016: The Bronxville boys’ golf team completed a perfect 16-0 season last week.
In their final regular season match against rival Scarsdale, the boys came up with a big win to preserve their undefeated season. Scoring for the Broncos were seniors Matt Bettino (38), Chris Gay (39), and Connor Daly (40), sophomores Liam Bishop (41) and Dan Bettino (44), and eighth-grader Will Tormey (47).
Bronxville will host Croton in the Conference 3 Team Tournament tomorrow and will compete for its second Section 1 Championship on June 1.
The golf playoff season includes both team and individual tournaments, and the Broncos had a record number of individuals qualify for sectionals this year, including veterans Daly, Gay, and M. Bettino and newcomers Bishop, D. Bettino, and Tormey.
In the first round of the two-day sectional tournament held on Monday at Waccabuc Country Club, Daly, Gay, and Bishop were among the 30 golfers who advanced to round 2.
Daly, a two-time state qualifier, finished in second place with a 73, and Gay, who qualified for states for the first time last year, shot a 74. Bishop moved on to the second day of the tournament with an 81, but two-time state qualifier Matt Bettino shot an 82, missing the cut-off by just one shot.
Sectionals continue today at Fenway Country Club in Scarsdale. The top nine golfers from the Section 1 tournament will head to the New York State Championships in Ithaca on June 4.
Go Broncos.
