By J. Murrer and S. Q DeJoy
Oct. 12, 2022: It is the last week of the regular season for many of the Bronxville athletic teams.
The soccer and field hockey teams will be finished with the regular season by Monday, but the football team has two more games to play.
The Individual Sectional Championship for the girls’ tennis team took place this past weekend, and the Team Sectional Championship will start this week.
Seedings for the soccer and field hockey teams will take place early next week. Below is a look at where the teams stand at this point in the season.
Tennis

The girls’ varsity tennis team finished the regular season with an overall record of nine wins and three losses. This was good enough to place the team as the No. 3 seed in the Section 1 Team Tournament. The tournament begins on Thursday, but Bronxville has received a bye in the first round. Highlights of the tennis season include a win over Rye High School and a 7-0 win over league rival Edgemont.
The Section 1 Girls’ Tennis Singles Tournament kicked off on Saturday at Harrison High School. Bronxville’s Victoria McEnroe, the No. 1 seed, easily defeated Westlake’s Isabella Alberti (6-0, 6-0) and Edgemont’s Nishka Daga (6-1, 6-2) in the early rounds, and had a 6-3, 6-4 win over Eastchester’s Selma Petrie in the semifinals on Monday. In the sectional final held yesterday, McEnroe lost a very close three-set match, which took nearly three hours. The No. 2 seed, Mia Palladino of Brewster, won the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Anette Dani and Hannah Shammas made it to the third round of the Section 1 Singles Championship. Dani lost 6-2, 6-0 to Palladino, and Shammas lost 6-1, 6-0 to Olivia Medrano of Pelham.
McEnroe has qualified for the New York State Championships for the second year in a row and will be competing in Albany later this month.
Boys’ soccer
The boys’ soccer team (11-1-1) is one of the top-ranked teams in Class B, which include Briarcliff, Bronxville, Irvington, Byram Hills, and Keio.
Both Bronxville and Briarcliff are on the bubble of Lohud’s top ten teams in the Power Rankings. This past week, the Broncos had wins over Woodlands, Dobbs Ferry, Yonkers Montessori, and Beacon and will face Byram Hills (7-4-2) on Sunday at home at 11AM.
Girls’ Field Hockey
The girls’ field hockey team (7-4-3)) had one win and two losses in the past week. They defeated Class C Irvington (9-3-1) on October 7th but had losses to top-ranked Class C Hastings on Saturday and Class A Scarsdale on Monday.
They will finish up the regular season with a game against Class C Albertus (4-6-1) at home on Friday and will play the top-ranked Section 1 team, Mamaroneck, on Monday. The Broncos defeated Albertus 4-1 earlier in the season.
Football
Despite their 1-4 record, the Broncos have played some tough football this fall. They lost to Pleasantville 21-14 in overtime, lost 28-27 to Ardsley in double overtime, and lost to 23-20 to Hen Hud this past weekend.
They will play at Byram Hills on Friday at 7PM. Their final game of the season will be home on October 22nd against Pearl River. Game time is 1:30.
Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ soccer team (4-8-1) will finish the season with games against Irvington (10-3) at home on Thursday and away at Hastings (6-4-1) on Saturday. The seeding for the playoffs will take place on October 17th.
Go Broncos.
