Broncos' Schedule Resumes After Holiday and Winter Storm

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer
Jan. 10, 2018: Bronco winter sports took a break for the holiday, and then last week’s games were canceled because of the bomb cyclone.
The cold and snow should have been a bonus for the Bronxville ski team, but its practice location, Campgaw in Mahwah, New Jersey, has been unable to make snow and was just far enough west that it did not benefit from the storm. The team has been able to free ski several times, but the snow cover is not deep enough to set slalom gates. The 33-member ski team competes in slalom and giant slalom and will head to Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, Connecticut, today for its first giant slalom race of the season.
Being a winter athlete is a challenge. Athletes come home after practice and games in the dark, they must deal with the weather, and they also have their season interrupted multiple times. On Monday, the Broncos take a break for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, and the following week the Broncos are off for midterms.
Most teams are competing off-site this week, but the boys’ varsity basketball team will play on Friday evening at home against Rye Neck at 7:00 pm. The boys’ junior varsity plays Rye Neck right before the varsity game at 5:00 pm. See the schedule below for this week’s sporting events.
