May 2, 2018: This past weekend, six talented Bronxville squash players participated in the U.S. Squash Junior Bronze Championships at Chelsea Piers in Connecticut.
The players from Bronxville who played in the Bronze Nationals were Nicolas Park (Boys Under 13), Daanyal Agboatwalla, Ben Korengold, and Peter Vorbach (Boys Under 15), Katie Hennessy (Girls Under 15), and Robby Cruikshank (Boys Under 17).
It was a great weekend of squash with outstanding results for the Bronxville players. Katie Hennessy took out the No. 3 seed in five games in the semifinals to finish an impressive second in the Girls Under 15 Division.
Daanyal Agboatwalla and Peter Vorbach also finished in the top of their draws, taking third and fourth, respectively, in the Boys Under 15 Division. Agboatwalla advanced to the semifinals without giving up a game before succumbing to the No. 1 seed. Vorbach, who was unseeded, defeated the No. 4 seed in the second round and advanced all the way to the semifinals before succumbing to the No. 2 seed.
Nicolas Park also had a great weekend, winning the consolations in the Boys Under 13 Division and finishing ninth overall. Park defeated Gordon Baltzell of Brooklyn in the consolation finals, a five-game battle that ended 12-10 in the fifth.
Ben Korengold finished in the 13-16 category with some great matches, including an incredibly close five-gamer in the second round.
Robby Cruikshank made it to the semifinals of the consolation in the highly competitive Boys Under 17 Division. He lost his semifinal match in a close five-game battle and finished 11/12 overall.
It certainly was a great weekend of squash for the Bronxville players.
