June 2, 2021: The Bronxville outdoor track and field teams competed in two meets last week, the League 3B Championship and the regional Westchester County Championship. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams won their respective league titles in a field that included Blind Brook, Bronxville, The Leffell School, Rye Neck, Tuckahoe, and Woodlands.
At the Westchester County Championships South, the Bronco boys won with a score of 234 points and beat out two local giants, New Rochelle, who placed 2nd with 148 points, and Mount Vernon, who came in 3rd with 109. The Bronxville girls’ team had a 3rd place finish at Counties behind New Rochelle and Ursuline. Other teams competing at the South County Championship included Hastings, Pelham, Eastchester, Greenburg, and Tuckahoe.
“The Westchester County Championship was a remarkable performance for our team given the size and talent of the teams included in our division,” said the boys’ track coach Brian Halling. “I truly cannot say enough about how hard this team has worked this year and how remarkably well they represent the school.”
The Bronco boys earned five regional county titles. Johnny Moynihan placed first in the 100m dash, the 200m dash and the triple jump. John Ryan placed first in the 2000m steeplechase, and Liam Heraty won top honors in the high jump. For the girls’ team, Jules Gravier won the 100m hurdles and the pole vault, Madeline Stupart won the 800m, and Milly Koenig, Donna Napolitano, Hope Hershberg and Juliet Winiecki won the 4x400m relay.
At the League 3B Championships held earlier in the week, the girls’ team received 20 All-League and seven All-League honorable mention awards. The boys’ team was recognized with 14 All-League and ten All-League-honorable mention awards.
