Jul. 29, 2015:  After decades of serving the community, Pets Alive Westchester (the former Elmsford Animal Shelter) will be permanently closing its doors. Due to structural deficiencies in the building and significant operational expenses, the shelter is no longer able to continue doing business.

Effective immediately, the shelter will begin a "free love--name your own price" adoption program to encourage finding homes for as many animals as possible (all potential adopters will still need to go through the application and screening process).  It is also important to note that Pets Alive will maintain its commitment to a "no kill" principle, and "absolutely no euthanasia" will occur due to this closing.

Anyone looking to adopt a pet is encouraged to visit the shelter or view its animals online at www.petsalivewest.org. The shelter is located only seven miles from Bronxville. 

Adoption applications can be filled out online or at the shelter. The approval process takes around 10 minutes if references are available at the time of the visit. 

Pets Alive Westchester is open seven days a week.
Sunday to Thursday: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Friday: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
