Mar. 30, 2016:  James is a short-haired adult male guinea pig with a sweet and gentle personality. 

This petite fellow arrived at the animal shelter very neglected. He was purchased as a young child's pet, and unfortunately the parents did not oversee his care. As a result, he became caked with urine and feces, resulting in red sores on his belly and feet. He has since been nurtured back to health and amazingly never lost his happy-go-lucky demeanor. Now all he requires is eye drops to help keep him in tip-top shape. 

Guinea pigs are cuddly, comical, and clever. They are social animals whose docile nature and responsiveness to handling and feeding help make them wonderful pets for children. Despite their name, guinea pigs are not in the pig family, nor are they from Guinea. They are known to have originated in the Andes and do not exist naturally in the wild.

James is hoping to be given a second chance to show someone what a great pet he will make for anyone willing to properly love him. He is ready for immediate adoption. You can visit him today at the Humane Society of Westchester (the former New Rochelle Humane Society). The shelter is located at 70 Portman Avenue in New Rochelle, which is just 10 minutes from Bronxville. It is open every day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm except Thursdays, when it is open from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
