Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library offers story hours for young children and other special events. All of the Children ’s Room programs for young children require registration in person one week in advance.
The Huguenot Childrens' Library is housed in a charming brick structure built in 1869 - - “the first brick house in New Rochelle.” The Library includes “books, computers and activities just for kids.” Outside the Library is a “new, state-of-the-art playground.” You can spend part of the morning enjoying the Library and the rest at the playground. If you’re lucky, the ice cream truck will arrive, providing an extra special treat for the kids.
The Tuckahoe Public Library makes for a fun outing for toddlers. The Children ’s section of the library includes a train set as well as computers and puzzles set out on low tables. There are many books that are displayed and easily accessible for reading to your toddler. The Library also offers special events and programs for children.
The White Plains Public Library has a great children ’s section called “The Trove.” It includes a special area for toddlers and young children with a play kitchen, interactive toys, computers and books. It also has an activity room where children can do crafts such as decorating paper animals. There is much to keep a young child occupied and stimulated. The Library also offers numerous programs for children of all ages.
Ballet Arts offers ballet, jazz, tap, irish step, hip-hop, ballroom, yoga, pilates, creative movement, Zumba, Chinese dance and private voice and musical instrument lessons. Central Park Zoo
A visit to the Central Park Zoo can be part of a day “in the city” that can include a nice stroll through Central Park, a visit to the Zoo, lunch with some friends and play time in one of the Park’s wonderful playgrounds. The Zoo includes a rain forest, an Antarctic penguin habitat and the Tisch Children’s Zoo. It is easy to navigate and a lot of fun.

Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk
The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is great for children of all ages. You can see many marine animals including large sea turtles, sharks, jellyfish, seals and playful river otters. Everything is at eye level for a child even if they are in a stroller. The Museum also has a cafeteria-style restaurant which is informal and a good place to relax and have lunch with the children. If you want to make it a full day, after you are finished at the Maritime Museum, take a short car ride over to the Stepping Stones Children’s Museum (see separate listing for more information). There is also a very nice playground called Devon’s Place right next to the Stepping Stones Museum.

New York Botanical Gardens
The New York Botanical Gardens is a nice place to go for a scenic stroll with a baby, particularly if there is a special exhibit in the Gardens. It is also a great place to bring school-age children, who can enjoy the “Adventure Garden” or one of the many special events for children. Finally, the Gardens’ puts on a special electric train exhibit during the Christmas holidays which is great fun for children and adults.

The Stepping Stones Museum for Children features “interactive exhibits, educational programs and fun for the whole family.” They have a toddler-only gallery where your children can climb on soft blocks. They also have many hands-on exhibits that your child will enjoy, including one room filled with flowing water and colorful balls. This summer they had an outdoor bubbles exhibit where kids could enjoy blowing bubbles into the air. This is a “must do” outing.

Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is a “non-profit farm, educational center and restaurant.” Its mission is to “demonstrate, teach and promote sustainable, community-based food production.” They offer educational programs for children K-12 and have a Harvest Festival in October (October 13, 2007) which is fun for the whole family. Wave Hill
Wave Hill is a 28-acre public garden and cultural center in the Bronx overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades. It has a wonderful history. For example, Wave Hill House was originally a country home. It was rented by Theodore Roosevelt`s family in 1870 and 1871 and by Mark Twain from 1901 to 1903. It was deeded to NYC in 1960. It has beautiful gardens and many educational programs. It even offers family art projects. It is a lovely place for a stroll in the spring.

Bryant Park
If you’re planning a day trip to New York City, you might want to consider making a visit to Bryant Park. Located an easy walk from Grand Central, the Park offers a french-style Carousel and an outdoor reading room, which holds reading programs for kids and has kid-sized furniture. The Park also has a skating pond for some winter fun.

River Lake Park
River Lake Park is the 21-acre park that extends along the western edge of Bronxville, bordering the Bronx River. It includes a path for walking and biking. It is a nice place for a stroll with babies and young toddlers who will enjoy seeing the ducks and geese on the River and watching others biking and running.
Sagamore Park
Sagamore Park is a .63 acre playground located on the east side of Sagamore Road. The playground includes slides, swings, a sandbox, a basketball hoop and some open space to ride on the push toys that are left in the park for all to use. It is great for babies and young toddlers.
Main Street Park in Tuckahoe
This is a small "no frills" park on the end of Main Street in Tuckahoe that is closer to the Mobil Station. It has a small jungle gym with two slides and a swing set with two baby swings and one regular swing. The park is small and contained and appropriate for young toddlers.

The Bronxville Skating Club is a two-hour supervised session held on Monday afternoons at Murray Rink (348 Tuckahoe Road, Yonkers, New York). Group lessons in basic skills and ice hockey are available. It is open to all students in grades K to 6 in the Bronxville community. It is especially popular with children in grades K to 3.

The Bronxville Youth Lacrosse Association (BYLA) is a parent-run and coached lacrosse league that includes the following programs:
-Co-ed instructional clinic for Grades K & 1 -Girls instructional clinic for Grade 2 & 3 -Boys instructional clinic for Grade 2 -Girls travel programs for Grade 4 and Grades 5-6 -Boys travel programs for Grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8
Most programs are open enrollment and no experience is necessary. However, some travel teams may limit roster size based on tryouts. The season starts in March and runs through the end of the school year.

Eastchester Youth Soccer League
The Eastchester Youth Soccer League is a soccer program for “town residents in Kindergarten through 9th grade.” The league is held at various town and school fields in the fall and spring.
The Patriots “Football” Club was founded in 1996 by Don Cupertino. It was founded as a premier division of the Eastchester Youth Soccer Association but is now a standalone organization. The Club fields 13 teams with over 200 players from Westchester and surrounding counties. They are hosting tryouts for 2007-2008 on Saturday October 27 and November 3, 2007 at Tibbetts Brook Park Turf Field #3.
The Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) was established in the 1970s. It is an affiliate of the United States Soccer Association, which is a member of the United States Soccer Federation, the governing body for soccer in the United States. The WYSL sponsors Fall and Spring seasonal travel soccer for its member clubs, including a High School mini-season in the Fall, and a Select Program featuring summer tournament play.

Sarah Lawrence College
Sarah Lawrence College offers adult swimming programs as part of its SLC@Night...days and weekends too program. This includes two “Swim for Fitness” programs - - one is a two-day-a-week program and one is a three-day-a-week program The classes are designed to “use lap swimming as a cardiovascular workout. Swimmers are required to know freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Feedback is provided to improve strokes, but this is not a learn-to-swim class. Different workouts are provided each session and swimmers will swim anywhere from ½ mile to over 1 mile per class.”
The Rye YMCA is a “family-oriented community service organization, which welcomes all people and promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body.” They offer Aquatics for all ages, including Adult Swim Instruction and a Masters Swimming Program.

White Plains YWCA
The White Plains YWCA offers swim classes to children of all ages. This includes Wee Splash for 6 to 18 months, Wee Splash Too for 18+ months and Wee Fish for children ages 3 to 5. There are also more class options.
The Badger Swim Club, based in Larchmont, New York, is a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club and a member of Metropolitan Swimming. “Badger swimmers have won medals in four out of the last five Olympics.” The Head Coach is John Collins. The Head Age Group Coach is Kip Fiero and the Assistant Age Group Coach is Carle Fiero.
The Club has a 10 & Under Age Group Team which is based out of the New Rochelle High School and the Durland Scout Center in Rye. “Children from ages 4 to 10 are introduced to competitive swimming and eventually coached to reach their individual potential in swimming. Proper form is reinforced through drills. Endurance and interval training is introduced.”
It also has an 11 & Over Age Group Team based out of the New Rochelle High School, the Durland Scout Center and SUNY Purchase in Purchase, New York. Badger Swim Club
The Gael Aquatic Club is “a competitive age group swim club located at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York” It was formed in 1984 and its swimmers have been “state finalists, Eastern United States Swimming Zone All Star selections, All County high school swimmers and many USS meet event winners.” They offer programs for children age 6 and up.

YWCA Middies Swimming
The YWCA Middles Swim Team is a “fully sanctioned YWCA and USA Swimming program. It involves a year round commitment on the part of the swimmer including participation in meets.” They offer four levels of professional instruction and training for swimmers six years and older.
Over the past 21 years, they have had swimmers “qualify and swim in the Olympics, US Olympic Trials, the Olympic Festival, USA Nationals, US Open, National Junior Championships, Regionals and Zones and have attained many Top 8 finishes.” Additionally, “the Middies have won the YWCA National Championships for the past 20 consecutive years and now hold many individual and relay records.”

College Racquet Club
Located in Bronxville, the College Racquet Club offers tennis programs for children and juniors age 5 to 15 as well as clinics for women. It is both an indoor and outdoor facility. They teach all different levels from beginner to tournament level players. The Director of Tennis, Neil Tarangioli, is Head Coach of the Concordia College tennis team and has been recognized for many years as an outstanding player and coach, including being named Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in 1999-2000.

Lake Isle
Lake Isle is an Eastchester Town-owned facility that is open to all residents and a limited number of non residents. Town residents are defined as those people whose “permanent and primary domicile is located within Eastchester, Bronxville, or Tuckahoe. “ Along with five swimming pools and an 18-hole golf course, they have eight Har-Tru tennis courts. Fees for non-residents are higher than for residents.
Siwanoy is a private country club in Bronxville that offers swimming, tennis, paddle tennis, dining and golf.

Village Tennis Courts
Bronxville has public tennis courts located in the heart of town. They are available for play mid April through November. Anyone willing to pay the fee is eligible to play. They offer private and group lessons for adults and children and also have a women’s team that plays matches in the Westchester County Recreation League starting in the spring.
