Bronxville School Winter Sports Awards 2024

March 20, 2024: The Bronxville School winter athletes were honored at the annual Winter Sports Awards evening last week.  

The winter season started out right after Thanksgiving and ended in early March with the Indoor Track and Field Nationals and the U.S. Squash Championship. 

It was a drawn-out but very successful season for the Broncos who received 27 All-League awards and 20 All-Section awards. 

The sports awards evening can be viewed at Winter Sports Awards 2024, and a full list of awards winners is listed below.

Squash

The varsity squash teams had very successful seasons despite graduating many team members last year. The Bronxville girls’ team had an undefeated regular season and competed at the U.S. Squash National Championship in Philadelphia.

At Nationals, the Bronxville girls placed 13th overall in Division 1. They were first among all public schools and earned the status of being the most successful public school squash program in the country. 

The boys’ team was 8-1 in the regular season and placed 8th in Division 2 at Nationals.

Captain Award: Scarlett Hine

Most Valuable Player: Emma Yeon

Most Improved: Petra Monogenis, Rosie Vorbach

Captains’ Awards: Rustin Wiser, Andrew Shah

Most Valuable Player: John Shah

Most Improved: Pierce Martin

Indoor Track & Field

The indoor track and field teams finished the season as League and Sectional Champions. In addition, they sent eight athletes to the New York State Championships and eleven to National Championships held in Boston and New York.  

Three athletes set new school records: Wyatt Gravier in both the 55m hurdles and the high jump, Davis Patterson in the 300m, and Alex Napolitano in the weight throw.

Girls’ Team

All-Section: Caitlin Paisley, Kara Kochansky, Finlay Rowan, Eva Mihova, Colette Ungvary, Juliet Winiecki, Maddy Williams, and Carina Winiecki.

All-League: Carson Kochansky, Caitlin Paisley, Finlay Rowan, Kara Kochansky, Eva Mihova, Alessa Johnson, Colette Ungvary, Meghan Curran, Juliet Winiecki, Maddy Williams, and Carina Winiecki.

Distance MVP: Maddy Williams

Field MVP: Eva Mihova

Sprinting MVP: Kara Kochansky

Boys’ Team

All-Section: Luke Corr, Liam Greenfield, Tommy Henningson, Spencer Martin, Kieran McBride, Wyatt Gravier, Javier Tomala-Reidel, Jack Toal, Davis Patterson, Grant Patterson, and Julian Gonzalez.

All-League: Spencer Martin, Kieran McBride, Wyatt Gravier, Matthew McSherry, Javier Tomala-Reidel, Alex Napolitano, Davis Patterson, and Grant Patterson.

Distance MVP: Kieran McBride

Field /Hurdles MVP: Wyatt Gravier

Sprinting MVP: Davis Patterson

Ice Hockey

Senior Luke Arrighi (pictured above speaking at the Winter Sports Awards) plays ice hockey for the combined Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville/Edgemont ice hockey team, and had a stellar season and was named All-League, All-Section, and League MVP.  Arrighi, a team captain, scored 58 points in 20 games and is the 7th-ranked forward for All-State consideration.

BOYS BASKETBALL

17 basketball roster; 7 seniors, Made the playoffs, played up to A; won against NS, lost to Woodlands who won Section 1 and regionals.

 

Squash 8-1 FairWest; ranked top in country; 8th in D2 at Nationals

 

ScarletT HineAndrew Shah, most successful year for girtls Won FW undefeated, Dividion 1 13th overall – Best Div 1 public school in the country- senior captain

Girls’ team – Supreet – no girls team a couple of years ago- Most successful public school squash progeam in the country.

 

Boys’ team- graduated  lots of seniors in 2022 and 2023; boys’ team in Nov- something special- 2-7 very strong team, competed well at Nationals lost 4-3 to the team that won Nationals. Lot of potential
