Bronxville Girl Scouts Serve Heartfelt Dinner to Ronald McDonald House Residents

By Katharine Delaney

March 20, 2024: Bronxville Girl Scout Troop 1506 showcased their community spirit and culinary talents as they prepared a heartfelt dinner for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley in Valhalla, NY. Troop members Lily Delaney, Josie Leddy, and Ava Toolan, all Freshmen at Bronxville High School, took charge of the kitchen on Sunday, March 3rd, to cook up a delicious meal from scratch.

With over 300 locations worldwide, Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home away from home for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. This location provides shelter and meals to families with children at Westchester Medical Center and the Maria Ferari Children's Hospital.

With enthusiasm and dedication, the troop embarked on their mission to create over 30 dinners to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. The menu for the evening featured Caesar Salad, Penne ala Vodka, Garlic Bread, and double-chocolate Brownies – a comforting and satisfying meal sure to warm both hearts and stomachs.

The preparation process was a true team effort, with each scout contributing their skills and passion to the task at hand. From chopping vegetables to stirring sauce, every step was completed with care and precision under the guidance of their troop leaders, Trish Toolan and Katie Delaney.

As the aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, the scouts eagerly awaited the opportunity to share their culinary creations with the residents of the Ronald McDonald House. With smiles on their faces and a sense of pride in their hearts, they served up plate after plate of delicious food, spreading joy and comfort to not only parents of the hospitalized children, but their siblings as well.

The residents of the Ronald McDonald House were deeply grateful for the generosity of Troop 1506. As they enjoyed their dinner, they were reminded that they were not alone, and that there were people in their community who cared about them and were willing to lend a helping hand in their time of need.

For the scouts of Troop 1506, this service project was about more than just cooking a meal – it was about making a difference in the lives of others. By coming together to support the Ronald McDonald House, they demonstrated the power of community and the importance of giving back.
