Letter to the Community from Village Justice Natasha Nordahl

March 13, 2024

Dear fellow residents of Bronxville,

I am excited to share with you that I am running for re-election to the position of Village Justice.  It is hard to believe it has been 3 1/2 years since I was first elected in September 2020 to serve in this role.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Village Justice Court, we hear criminal, civil (small claims) and landlord/tenant matters, as well as parking and traffic infractions. We also have the privilege of performing wedding ceremonies.  While many people believe that only residents of Bronxville come before the court, in reality individuals appear in our courtroom if they are alleged to have committed a crime in Bronxville, regardless of where they live.

The Village Justice Court has been very busy lately. In addition to the full calendar of parking and traffic infractions and criminal matters, we have held several bench trials and many weddings. Interestingly, I recently had the privilege of presiding over a two-day jury trial, which was the first jury trial in the Village in over 30 years.  As part of the court's docket, the justices hear and decide motions, approve settlements and regularly interact with our neighboring courts on various matters. Finally, during the two weeks a month each justice is on duty, your village justices are on call to perform arraignments, which can occur at almost any hour of the day.

It has been my sincere privilege to serve the Village of Bronxville as well as those who have appeared before me, especially alongside my colleague, Justice William Primps.  It is my goal and practice for each individual who appears before our court to leave the court knowing that they have been treated with respect, they have been heard, and to appreciate that the law has been fairly applied. It is my commitment to my fellow residents to discharge my duties, each and every day, to the best of my ability.

Please come meet all of your village candidates on March 14 at the Bronxville Public Library from 6:30-8 p.m.

Sincerely,
Justice Natasha Nordahl
