Letter to the Community Supporting Christina P. Skinner for Bronxville School Board

May 10, 2023

Dear Neighbors:

We write to endorse the candidacy of Christina P. Skinner, Esq. for the position of Trustee of the Bronxville Union Free School District Board of Trustees.  We do so enthusiastically and without any reservation whatsoever.

We are all residents of Bronxville Village.  We are parents of current, past and future Bronxville school pupils, students, alumni, grandparents and community members committed to supporting the excellence of our schools.  We are all actively engaged in service to our community in one form or another generally and, specifically, as concerns the Bronxville School.  As such, we have observed the process by which Ms. Skinner has come to be on the ballot for election as Trustee closely and are most pleased that the process has yielded such an extraordinarily qualified candidate.

Ms. Skinner’s sundry professional accomplishments demonstrate how acutely qualified she is to be a Trustee of the Bronxville Board of Education.  Ms. Skinner received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her Juris Doctor law degree from Yale Law School.  After law school, she spent two years in coveted and important positions as law clerk to two federal judges.  She continued her academic career by obtaining a post-doctoral fellowship (with a focus on financial regulation) at Columbia Law School.  Ms. Skinner’s legal career has featured stints with the United States Department of Justice, as well as active law practice at the prestigious firms of Zuckerman Spaeder and Arnold & Porter.  Currently, she is an educator herself as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, where she specializes on educating on financial regulations with a focus on monetary and fiscal governance including risk management and culture in financial institutions.

Frankly, in light of the financial, regulatory, risk management, cultural and legal issues with which the Board of Education must contend on a virtually continuous basis, Ms. Skinner’s professional qualifications not only uniquely position her as a meaningful contributor to the Board’s crucially important work from day one, they make her an ideal candidate for Board service.

Ms. Skinner’s many personal attributes only affirm the strength of her candidacy that her professional background in law, finance, culture, and education make clear.  She and her husband are committed and involved members of the Bronxville community.  As parent to two children in the Bronxville Elementary School (with two more children in the Reformed Church Nursery School as future students), Ms. Skinner is vested in the quality of education provided by the Bronxville School and to its continued excellence.  Her commitment to the Bronxville community generally, and the Bronxville School specifically, is demonstrated beyond her decision to educate her children here as she has served on Bronxville parent committees, including the “DEI” (we note that Ms. Skinner is a first-generation American of Cuban heritage and feels the full spectrum of perspectives ought to be heard), as a PTA class parent for three classes, and as the Treasurer of the Bronxville Skate Club.  She is an active parishioner at St. Joseph's, where she volunteers as a religious education teacher.

Ms. Skinner’s commitment to the serious and crucially important work of the Board of Education has also been clearly demonstrated.  She submitted her candidacy to the Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee (“NPC”) for consideration, vetting, and endorsement.  Following the NPC’s lengthy, careful and considered processes, she received the enthusiastic endorsement of our fellow residents who comprise – and serve so well upon – the NPC.

We endorse Ms. Skinner to be a Trustee of the Bronxville Board of Education and look forward to her great contributions to the continued excellence of the Bronxville School.

Respectfully submitted,

Hugh Allen
