May 2023: It was widely reported in the press last week that a child was rescued on the Metro-North railroad tracks.  What you may not know is that Marcus Higgins, the Metro-North Conductor who rescued the child, is a Bronxville resident.

William Kennedy, the engineer of another train, first saw the child on the tracks and brought his train to a stop. Kennedy then radioed the northbound train, of which Higgins was the conductor, and told him about the child.

Higgins brought his train to a halt and then saw the child, who was heading in the direction of the energized third rail.  Thankfully the rail had a piece of wood above it and the child hopped over the rail.

Higgins jumped off his train and ran toward the child. A track star both at Bronxville High School and the University of Pennsylvania, Higgins was soon able to catch up to the child and bring him to safety on his train. The boy's mother was soon reunited with her child who is autistic and had been missing for about an hour.

Following this incident, Marcus Higgins and his wife were invited by the Yankees to Yankee Stadium where Marcus was honored.
