May 11, 2022: The Bronxville boys’ lacrosse team faced some of its toughest Class D competition this past week and ended the regular season on a high note.  They picked up a 12-9 victory over No. 3 Pleasantville last Wednesday, and defeated No. 1 Briarcliff in overtime on Monday. Bronxville, Briarcliff and Pleasantville are all top-ranked teams in the state.

Bronxville got off to a slow start in the game against Briarcliff and trailed for much of the game. They were down 6-2 at the half, and while they were able to close the gap, they were still down 7-5 at the end of the third quarter.

The momentum changed dramatically in the fourth quarter.  With the Broncos down 8-5 late in the fourth, Bronxville’s Chris Patterson brought the score to 8-6 with 4:40 left, scored one more less than a minute later, and tied the game 8-8 with just 3:20 left. The score was tied 9-9 at the end of regulation time .

In sudden victory overtime, Luke Stephens scored the game winning goal with an assist from Patterson to give Bronxville a 10-9 win.  It is likely that the Broncos (10-5) and the Bears (11-4) will meet again in the upcoming playoffs.

At the LaxFest on Saturday afternoon, the Bronxville boys lost to powerhouse Shoreham-Wading River 10-9 in overtime. Tommy Garofalo was the top scorer with five goals and one assist, and Patterson and McGrath each added two goals. Luke Arrighi had 11 saves. It was a hard-fought battle against a team that is ranked No. 9 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Rankings.

Saturday’s LaxFest was a full-day of lacrosse with Bronxville Youth Lacrosse games taking place in the morning, and JV and varsity games in the afternoon. All proceeds from the event were donated to the One Love Foundation.

There was a lot planned for the day, but unfortunately, the rain put a damper on the festivities. Most of the food trucks canceled, and the fans were in short supply.

The 14-1 girls’ lacrosse team took the field on Saturday afternoon with a game against Pelham. The Broncos, who are the top-ranked Class D team in the state, defeated the Class C Pelicans 20-5.

The Bronxville girls moved up to No. 12 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Rankings, an incredible accomplishment for a team from a small school. The team has only one loss this season to New Canaan, a team that is ranked No. 5 nationally.

Both Bronxville teams are positioned well for the Sectional Playoffs.  The seeding meetings will take place later this week, and the first round will begin this weekend.
