Holiday Happenings at Cross County Center

By Josefa Paganuzzi, Thompson & Bender for Cross County Center

Nov. 3, 2021: For many, Thanksgiving and Black Friday have become the traditional start to the holiday season with incredible sales and deep discounts being offered to spur holiday shopping. This year, however, shopping even earlier may pay off.

Cross County Center is encouraging shoppers to experience the holidays in person and early this season at its popular outdoor shopping center.  Retailers are preparing for early shoppers by offering deals on well-stocked items, flash sales with in-store weekly and daily deals. Many retailers will also be offering in-store or curbside pick-up and featuring self-checkout stations to help avoid over-crowding and long lines.

Liz Pollack, Senior Marketing Manager at Cross County Center stated: “Families are looking forward to celebrating the holidays in person this year.  As a result, we expect holiday shopping to be busier than ever with families wanting to exchange gifts and experiences.  With manufacturer and shipping delays already being announced, we are encouraging shoppers to shop now and in person to make sure you find that perfect something for everyone on your list!”

With its outdoor setting, free up-close parking and family-friendly amenities, Cross County Center is a one-stop for shopping, dining, and entertainment. For those looking to experience the holiday spirit in person, you don’t have to travel to NYC to celebrate.  Cross County Center offers an action-packed lineup of holiday events for everyone! The 2021 lineup includes:

Holiday Tree Lighting: November 20, 6-8pm

Cross County Center will offer a real NYC Christmas experience right in the heart of Yonkers with the lighting of the largest holiday tree in Westchester! Standing over 40 feet tall, the tree is composed of over 20,000 LED lights (about 2 miles of strands!) that shoppers can walk-thru!  The tree lighting will take place on November 20th and includes live musical and dance performances, the pop-up ice skating rink with special characters, strolling entertainers and an electronic train ride.

Pop-Up Holiday Ice Skating Rink:  November 20 – January 2, 2022

Cross County Shopping Center is bringing back the popular pop-up ice skating rink. The pop-up rink is not made of real ice, it is a synthetic floor which glides slower than real ice making it perfect for first time and young skaters. The rink is also more environmentally friendly because it does not require electricity or water.  Admission is $10 per person (ages 5 and up) and includes skate rentals and a one-hour session. Character and theme skate nights will be hosted throughout the season.

Santa Photos: November 19- December 24

Capture a magical photo of your family inside Santa’s Workshop. The Santa set is cleaned throughout the day and face coverings are recommended for all unvaccinated visitors.   A special sensory photo session will take place on December 5 at 10AM and Pet Photos will take place each week on Mondays in December.  Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made through the center’s website, www.crosscountycenter.com.

Holiday Food Truck Market and NEW Food Carts:  November 20-January 2

Shoppers will enjoy tasty treats and savory snacks at the holiday food truck market! Trucks will be parked on The Green, in the center of the mall, and will be open for lunch and dinner.  Food Trucks include:  Abeetz Pizza, Crazy Taco Mex, Leila’s Crepes, Leila’s Empanadas, Mac’s Meatballs, Sloppie Joe’s and Waffle Box.

*NEW for 2021 FOOD CARTS & IGLOOS

For those that want to sit and eat in style, pop up igloos will be available for eating near Zara.  They will be open daily.  Guests can enjoy the cozy igloos while dining from food at one of Cross County Center’s many eateries or food trucks. One hour sessions will be available. Looking for a snack on the go? Food carts featuring popcorn, cotton candy and hot chocolate will be located near The Green, in the center of the mall.

Menorah Lighting: November 28 at 6pm

Join Cross County Shopping Center for a special Chanukah Menorah Lighting with the Chabad of Yonkers. The Chabad Rabbi will light the menorah in celebration of the festival of lights, and guests will enjoy live music, cultural dancing, and delicious treats. The event will take place near Macy’s.

Holiday Shopping Hours & Black Friday Info

Cross County Center will be closed for shopping on Thursday, November 25th, but restaurants will remain open for families wishing to celebrate. Store hours will be extended during the shopping season, beginning on Friday, November 26th when the center will open from 6am to 10pm.  Additional shopping hours will be listed on the center’s website.
