Bronxville School Board Report: Tenure, Senior Prom, Graduations, Resignation & More

By Staff

Apr. 28, 2021: The Bronxville School Board of Education met on April 20, 2021. Superintendent Dr. Roy Montesano reported that Covid-19 cases had “diminished significantly," a large portion of the staff had been vaccinated and a growing number of students had also been vaccinated. The school is adhering to its established Covid protocols but is looking at issues like the plastic desk barriers to determine if they can be reduced or eliminated.

Additional good news is that the school will hold a Memorial Day event in-person on the front lawn of the school and will be able to have a senior prom and in-person outside graduations with up to two parents present for the 5th, 8th and 12th grades. The prom venue requires that individuals attending show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test within 72 hours of the event.

The Board also formally accepted the resignation of Bronxville Elementary School Principal Tricia Murray. She has been at the Bronxville School for seven years and has taken a new role as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at the Rye City School District. Dr. Montesano praised Murray for her “outstanding leadership” at the Bronxville School.

Dr. Bill Meyer and two Bronxville School students also spoke about a new Justice Fellowship program at the Bronxville School that launched this year in conjunction with Sarah Lawrence College, the Mellon Foundation, and the Mount Vernon school. This Fellowship enables a small group of interested students to take “a deep drive” into issues of equity and justice which this year included a focus on education.

Finally, tenure was awarded to the following eleven individuals:

-Laura Matthews - elementary school
-Derrick DiRienzo - elementary school
-Meghan Hand - elementary school
-Megan Hanson - elementary school
-Claire Hollocou - elementary school, technology & staff development
-Caroleann Del Juidice - computer
-Eva Gambino - middle school
-Jiyoon. Kim - science & computer science principles
