By Staff

Mar. 10, 2021: The biggest local Covid news of this week is that effective March 10, eligibility for the Covid-19 vaccine in New York State has been expanded from people age 65+ to people age 60+.  Also, starting on March 17, the following essential workers are added to the eligibility list.

  • Public-facing government and public employees
  • Not-for-profit workers who provide public-facing services to New Yorkers in need
  • Essential in-person public-facing building service workers

Supply is still limited, and vaccine appointments are hard to come by, but things are moving in the right direction.

Additionally, as of March 9, 2021, a total of 1.9 million New Yorkers had been fully vaccinated.  This includes 11,094 in Westchester.

For the not-so-good news this week, after seven weeks of decline, the number of positive cases reported in Bronxville were up to 24 this week from 15 last week. All of our neighboring towns experienced a drop in cases this week, so in total, cases in the area fell by 134. You can view the Westchester Covid-19 interactive map here.

Overall, as of March 7, the New York State positivity rate was 3.6%.  The Westchester positivity rate was somewhat higher at 4.0%.
